Job Summary
- An opportunity exists in the Global Markets team of the Investment Bank for a junior economist who will be appointed to assist with data analysis, report writing and forecasts of macroeconomic variables for South Africa. This role is suited to a candidate with ideally a Masters degree in Economics/Econometrics but strong candidates with a four-year economics degree may also be considered. The role is a stepping stone to learn more about the economic landscape of the South African economy and therefore ideal for someone with a keen interest in learning about the South African markets.
The ideal candidate is likely to have a minimum of 2 years experience in macroeconomic research coupled with the following key attributes:
- Strong communication skills, including both verbal and written, with previous experience in a client-facing role advantageous
- Strong analytical and critical-thinking skills, along with the ability to identify the so what? in their analysis
- Meticulous attention to detail and conscientiousness
- A self-starter that can work both within a team and independently, and able to work under pressure and tight deadlines
- Proficient in Microsoft Office packages, such as Excel, Word and PowerPoint
- Ability to operate with the highest level of ethics and integrity
- Actively contribute to collecting and analyzing data, assist with presentations, conduct desk research while also contributing to reports on topical economic trends for South African markets.
- Work with experienced macroeconomist within the team on various trends and research projects within the South African economy.
- Support the research team with thought leadership and client interaction
Bachelor Honours Degree: Business, Commerce and Management Studies (Required)
