Responsibilities
The incumbent will be responsible for providing support to students especially those at risk of failing, in order for such students to succeed. These students progress will be monitored and reported on. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Academic advising (including but not limited to) participating in the orientation of new students, advising on curriculum changes/module changes/drops/adds and withdrawals;
- Supporting students identified as being at risk of not succeeding;
- Directing students with problems such as financial and psychological to the relevant support services;
- Tracking students performance and directing them to the academic assistance available;
- Managing and maintaining data on student interactions;
- Maintaining an advisory file on each advisee;
- Participating in projects from time to time as delegated by management.
- Honours in Educational Psychology or Psychology or Social Work or a cognate degree;
- At least three years experience as a tutor, mentor or advisor at a tertiary institution.
- A good understanding of the faculty curriculum;
- Advanced Ms Excel skills;
- Excellent time management skills;
- Basic understanding of Higher Education Systems;
- Ability to present workshops and conduct one-on-one interviews;
- Excellent facilitation skills;
- Ability to manage and follow through referred cases;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Two years career counselling experience.
The total remuneration package for this position is determined by UP guidelines.
