About Us
Over time the actuaries at MiWay have developed a shared library of internal software for certain common tasks. As the library has grown and become more central to their work, the need has arisen for a dedicated programmer to oversee, maintain, improve, and expand upon this code base.
This role offers the opportunity to take charge of a complete code base; to shape its future development; to work closely with a team of talented and energetic individuals in exploring ideas for new systems, tools and applications, and then to build those solutions. What will make you successful in this role?
Deliverables
- Maintaining existing R packages
- Adding new functionality to existing R packages
- Troubleshooting and fixing bugs
- Liaising with IT on performance and infrastructure requirements of hosted components
- Developing new tools/utilities to aid the Actuarial team
- Making efficiency improvements to existing code and processes
- Improving code robustness
- Writing documentation and creating training materials on new features
- Strong programming skills, preferably with experience in a functional language
- Analytical and critical thinker with a curious mind
- An aptitude for analysing and deconstructing novel problems
- The ability, interest and drive for constant self-directed learning and research
- A willingness to learn R to a high standard
Minimum Qualification Required
- Bachelors degree in computing or mathematical sciences, or computing/IT industry certifications at an equivalent level.
