Seed Agronomist

An established agricultural seed production company is seeking and experienced Production Advisor with expertise in seed production techniques to ensure the quality, quantity, and efficiency of seed production processes, playing a pivotal role in seed yield and quality for both growers and clients.

Minimum Requirements For The Role

• Must have a Bachelors degree in Agronomy
• Minimum 5 years experience in seed production is essential
• SANSOR Field Inspection and Phytosanitory Certification will be an added advantage
• Proficiency in MS Office software (Excel, E-mail, Word, Project etc.) is important
• Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills
• Strong teamwork capability (flexibility to work across the areas and positively influencing others) will be required
• Must be able to make informed decisions in a timely manner

The Successful Candidate Will Be Responsible For

• Planning and coordinating production planning, grower contracting, planting-, detasseling-, harvesting processes and cultivation activities that includes, fertilizing, weed, insect, irrigation control for foundation seed inbred increases, single cross make-ups and pre-commercial seed productions.
• Supporting field production for license hybrid parentals.
• Liaising with Africa Foundation Area Field Manager to do grower selection, contracting and crop allocations as well as annual field reviews.
• Responsible for all activities related to the delivery of high quality foundation seed, including pre-plant control, roguing (off type removal), harvest moisture control and field sampling.
• Coordinating with seed growers to ensure a smooth transition and flow of product from field to plant.
• Leading ESH efforts, providing assistance and arranging for resources to promote safety in field operations.
• Maintaining field operational records as required by the QMS management systems.
• Ensuring compliance with quality assurance standards and management system set by ISO9001.
• Recording field data in Velocity platform, to manage productions effectively.
• Motivating field employees to wear the correct PPE.
• Following Safety Operations procedures and reporting all accidents or incidents immediately.
• Participate in identifying hazards.
• Participating in Tier meetings and monthly Health and Safety Meetings.
• Maintaining a safe and orderly environment.
• Upon request participating in emergency response teams and any other safety or health group established by the site.
• Participating in all required HSE trainings and educations.
• Arranging maintenance on all production equipment.
• Completing checklists on equipment prior to use.
