Using advanced training and leadership, supervisors manage and coordinate budgets and expenditures, including forecasting future expenses, and enforce policies and procedures. They inspect emergency vehicles and make sure that all equipment complies with rules, ordinances and regulations, as well as ensure that workers are following all department policies and applicable laws. They assist with personnel training and develop work improvement plans within the department. They also monitor staff, resolve problems and document grievances and disciplinary actions.
Day-to-Day Tasks
Within the department or station, supervisors create schedules, assign and distribute work, prepare staff reports, back up workers in call-off situations and promote positive customer relations. They interact with managers to solve problems or answer questions. They may evaluate patients, provide emergency treatment and deliver patients to hospitals, as well as provide organized reports. These staff also handle accident logs, prepare staff reports and assist staff on difficult or unusual assignments.
