Purpose of Position:
Responsible for the performance of the NRL Microbiology department; managing the processes, operations and personnel to ensure operational goals are met and high-quality standards are maintained.
Requirements:
HPCSA registration (Microbiology / Clinical pathology) (Required), Management qualification (Required), National Diploma in Medical Technology / Bachelor of Health Sciences in Medical Laboratory Sciences. (Required)
Required Experience:
5 or more years middle to senior management experience with proven success in managing operational efficiency, budgets, processes and people., 5 years general medical technology experience., Knowledge and understanding of people management practices (including training, motivating, and directing employees) to optimise workplace productivity and promote professional growth., Knowledge of accreditation processes and procedures., Knowledge of HPCSA regulations, Knowledge of MS Office, Knowledge of OSH Act., Working knowledge of BCEA and LRA
Key Responsibilities:
Analyse employee satisfaction within the department and recommend and implement practices to ensure retention, growth and high employee morale., Analyse lab efficiency data for trends to identify process improvement opportunities to enhance service delivery and cost efficiency., Collaborate with relevant management stakeholders on recommendations for protocol/scope changes and prepare the necessary data (incl costs) to support/reject the proposal., Compile and manage the department budget to control expenses ensuring profitability., Compile monthly management and financial reports and provide feedback to management and staff., Ensure the departments service to internal and external customers meets expectations by analysing trends and monitoring the progress of corrective actions plans to ensure sustainability and growth., Manage compliance with company policies and procedures., Manage the operational performance of the laboratory, Oversee department recruitment and selection aligned to talent acquisition and EE policies for capacity building and succession planning., Performance manage direct reports by measuring performance against department goals and individual KPIs and provide feedback and mentoring to improve performance as required., Set and manage short-term and long-term department goals aligned with NRL strategic objectives.
