We are seeking a Trainee - Crushing Technology Analysis to join our Engineering Team. The successful candidate will gain hands-on experience in crushing technology, focusing on data analysis and real-life project applications. The trainee will develop strong technical and commercial skills essential for future roles in process design and equipment selection.

In this position, you will report to the Head of Technology Management.

This position is mainly located in Centurion, Gauteng.

You will join a multidisciplinary, collaborative, and forward-thinking group focused on delivering high-quality projects related to crushing technology and other equipment. This team is structured to foster innovation, efficiency, and professional growth while ensuring alignment with organizational goals.

What You Will Do
  • Assist with data review, analysis, and interpretation of crushing technology, acquiring essential skills for comminution circuit design
  • Support the selection and sizing of equipment for new projects, gaining practical experience in process design and technology selection
  • Help generate technical proposals for customers, learning how to translate technical insights into customer-focused solutions
  • Conduct research on new crushing technologies and market trends, ensuring exposure to cutting-edge innovations in the industry
  • Manage administrative tasks such as data entry, report writing, and proposal generation
Who You Are
  • Matric (Grade 12)
  • BSc Degree or BTech in Mineral Process Engineering and Extraction Metallurgy is a must
    • Relevant coursework or projects in crushing technology, mineral processing, or heavy machinery is a plus
  • Internship or Practical Experience:
    • Prior internships, co-op programs, or hands-on experience in manufacturing, mining, or heavy equipment industries
  • Certifications (Optional but Beneficial):
    • Certifications in project management
    • Safety certifications
  • Physical Requirements:
    • Ability to work in industrial environments, including exposure to noise, dust, and heavy machinery
    • Willingness to travel to project sites or client locations as needed
HARD AND SOFT SKILLS THAT ARE ESSENTIAL FOR THIS ROLE
  • Technical Knowledge:
    • Understanding of crushing technology, equipment, and processes (e.g., jaw crushers, cone crushers, impact crushers)
    • Familiarity with mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems used in crushing machinery
    • Basic knowledge of mineral processing or aggregate production (if applicable)
  • Engineering Fundamentals:
    • Strong foundation in mechanical, electrical, or industrial engineering principles
    • Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical drawings, schematics, and manuals
  • Software Proficiency:
    • Experience with CAD software (e.g. AutoCAD, SolidWorks) for equipment design or modification
    • Familiarity with data analysis tools (e.g., Excel, MATLAB) or simulation software for process optimization
    • Basic knowledge of project management tools
  • Project Management Basics:
    • Understanding of project planning, budgeting, and execution within Capex (capital expenditure) projects
    • Knowledge of risk assessment and mitigation strategies
  • Safety and Compliance:
    • Awareness of health, safety, and environmental (HSE) regulations related to crushing operations
    • Familiarity with industry standards (e.g. ISO, OSHA)
  • Problem-Solving and Analytical Thinking:
    • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues and propose innovative solutions
    • Strong analytical skills to evaluate equipment performance and process efficiency
  • Communication Skills:
    • Effective verbal and written communication to collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineers, operators, management)
    • Ability to present technical information clearly to non-technical stakeholders
  • Teamwork and Collaboration:
    • Willingness to work in multidisciplinary teams and learn from experienced professionals
    • Openness to feedback and adaptability in a dynamic work environment
