What You Will Do
The Analytical Chemist performs advanced tests, investigations, and analyses to assure that products comply with established specifications. Carries out complex calculations and documents test results. Supports Quality lab projects and/or routine tests by contributing key elements of the long-term objective-setting process. Participates in the delivery of lab testing efforts by using both existing and new procedures or processes to independently interpret data and identify and correct issues. Proposes ideas and next steps to supervisors and/or managers. Receives intermittent, moderately detailed instructions from Quality leaders at various levels, in addition to other stakeholders.
The Analytical chemist also demonstrates detailed knowledge of own technical area, and moderate knowledge of other areas impacted by own function at a local level with an operational focus, in contributing to regional projects and strategies. Assists laboratory colleagues in solving complex problems. Participates in technical groups to implement laboratory activities, and solve complex problems, while complying with local and global regulatory requirements as well as Kenvue standards. Supports the roll-out of laboratory activities (for example, instrument life-cycle management). Manages laboratory studies, projects, and processes/initiatives. Assists in developing lab strategies, policies, and guidelines linked to area of expertise (for example, creating Standard Operating Procedures). Contributes to external and/or internal manuscripts, regulatory reports, and technical reports.
Key Responsibilities
MAINTAINING OPERATIONS OF THE QUALITY CONTROL (QC) LABORATORY-
- Ensures that consumables are in stock - No out-of-stock consumables in laboratory
- Maintain general flow of work through laboratory - Follow systems put in place
- Samples and tests all items that require analytical assessment including but not limited to raw materials, intermediate production and finished goods when assigned to and where applicable.
- Monitors quality of the Reverse Osmosis (RO) water in the laboratory.
- Report on findings from analytical testing
- Performs various tests. Test are completed on scheduled due dates.
- Maintain Good Laboratory Practices and completes logbooks. - API Assay and Identification - Assay and identification of sample impurities - Test physical requirements of raw materials and finished goods - Checking product packaging - Stability testing - Raw Material Qualification - Process Validation
- Performs various monitoring, such as but not limited to- - Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) controls - Temperature monitoring and control
- Compliance with relevant GLP requirements
- SOPs for instruments compiled and updated.
- Ensure trained on latest SOP relevant to your responsibilities and general laboratory quality standards
- Instruments calibrated per procedure
- Maintains housekeeping standards in the laboratory
- Ensures compliance with the internal site requirements as well as HR policies and procedures. E.g. working hours, personal hygiene, etc.
- Investigation of Out Of Trend (OOT) and Out Of Specification (OOS) results in accordance with specified SOPs and method specifications.
- Completed within specified time frame
- Root cause established following investigation
Understand and implement relevant EHS Guidelines and performance expectations. Ensure that colleagues understand their roles and responsibilities and maintain compliance to relevant EHS guidelines and legislative requirements in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures. Keep up to date with EHS programs in accordance with the training matrix. Conduct and or participate in EHS.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma or Degree in Analytical Chemistry 3 Years experience in a pharmaceutical or related industry as an Analytical Chemist.
- Experience relating to equipment maintenance, calibration, validation, testing and method development.
- Understanding and can operate HPLC/UPLC, GC, AA, IC, UV, FTIR and other Laboratory equipment.
