Role Overview
An Armed/Technical Response Officer is responsible for providing armed protection, quick emergency response, and ensuring the safety of clients, properties, or assets. These officers are employed by private security companies or organizations with high-security needs, such as financial institutions, VIP protection services, or residential communities. Their duties also involve technical surveillance and emergency handling using both firearms and security equipment.
Key Responsibilities
Armed Security Patrols:
- Conduct regular patrols in assigned areas, which can include residential, commercial, or industrial zones.
- Monitor and ensure the security of premises, responding to suspicious activities or breaches.
- Operate vehicles and carry out vehicle patrols when necessary.
- Respond quickly to emergency alarms, armed intrusions, or distress signals from clients.
- Arrive on-site to manage the situation, whether its a robbery, intrusion, or any threat to safety.
- Evaluate the situation and decide on necessary actions, including contacting law enforcement or additional support.
- Maintain and carry legal firearms at all times while on duty.
- Ensure proper use and management of firearms according to South African laws and regulations (PSIRA regulations).
- Safeguard the lives of clients, employees, and assets through the responsible use of firearms when required.
- Use advanced security equipment such as CCTV systems, alarm systems, access control systems, and other electronic security measures.
- Monitor live security feeds to detect, assess, and act on potential threats.
- Perform regular checks and maintenance of technical security systems.
- Maintain constant communication with clients, ensuring their safety concerns are addressed promptly.
- Prepare detailed reports on security incidents, response activities, and ongoing risks.
- Coordinate with internal teams or law enforcement agencies when necessary.
- Adhere strictly to the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA) standards and firearms regulations.
- Maintain all required certifications, including firearm competency certificates and PSIRA registration.
- Stay updated on changes in safety and security regulations and ensure personal adherence to these standards.
- Use conflict resolution techniques to diffuse tense situations without resorting to violence.
- Follow best practices for threat assessment and the appropriate level of force, keeping public and personal safety a priority.
- Maintain high levels of physical fitness, as the job often involves long hours, quick response, and potential physical engagement.
- Undergo ongoing training in weapons handling, tactical response, first aid, and emergency procedures.

- Tactical Response Less than a years experience R 12 000.00 basic + R 750.00 telephone.
- Tactical Response Less than two years but more than a years experience R 13 000.00 basic + R 750.00 telephone.
- Tactical Response Less than three years but more than two years experience R 14 000.00 basic + R 750.00 telephone.
- Armed Response - Basic salary is R16 885.00 + R 750.00 telephone.
