Our client supplies specialised industrial minerals, which include agricultural lime, aggregates, feed lime and other related materials to the agricultural, feedstock, construction, mining and metallurgical and other related markets. It operates several open-cast quarries and processing plants across South Africa.
The Group is investing in the appointment of a suitable regional manager to oversee several open-cast quarries. The respective mine and/or operations managers will report into the Regional Manager who will carry the applicable legal appointments and would be responsible is to provide operational leadership, production, and maintenance expertise, SHEQ focus and to ultimately contribute to and implement the strategies to maximize operational output and efficiency.
Detailed Responsibilities
- The managers of the different mines and operations will report to the Regional Manager.
- The Regional Manager will report to and support the Group's Head of Production and Operations to determine daily, monthly, and annual production and operational strategies and to ensure the implementation thereof.
- Responsible for daily and monthly production planning.
- Ensure adequate staffing and motivation levels of personnel in each operation under his or her management.
- Responsible for overseeing and monitoring the daily production output, downtime and plant availability and daily technical and strategic support to each operation.
- Ensuring product quality.
- Support and facilitate interaction between each operation and the Group's centralised financial, supply chain and sales and logistics services to ensure timeous deliveries of raw materials inputs.
- Support and facilitate interaction between each operation and the Group's centralised sales and logistics services to ensure sufficient stock levels, product availability and timely order fulfilment.
- Identify production and operational inefficiencies and improvement opportunities.
- Support the planning and oversight of operational expansions, construction and erection and the implementation of improvement opportunities.
- Oversee operational costs and controls to ensure cost effectiveness of each operation.
- BSc/BTech (mechanical or electrical engineering would be preferable)
- Mining and/or extensive experience in mining, crushing, screening and mineral processing
- Experience in the mining sector is not a requirement
- At least 15 years' work experience in the industry and 10 years' experience in a management role in either a mining or factory environment.
- The candidate must be a people-orientated, results-driven individual with the ability to understand the legal requirements of the mining sector.
- The candidate should ideally be knowledgeable in aspects of open-cast mining, such as blasting, and processing plants such as jaw crushers, cone crushers, horizontal shaft impactors, vertical shaft impactors, wet and dry screening plants, electrical and instrumentation systems, and pumping systems.
