A well-established boutique winery in Tulbach is looking to employ a competent assistant winemaker.
Job requirements:
- This is a full-time permeant position and the successful applicant will commence his or her duties in January 2018.

- A Tertiary qualification and at least a year experience as an assistant winemaker is required.
- Computer literate and Bilingual (English and Afrikaans)
- A relevant tertiary qualification
- 1 year experience as an assistant winemaker
Job responsibilities:
- Give technical support in the winemaking process and performance of any duties as required in the production department.
- Laboratory analytics and data processing.
- General cellar documentation and certification, up to bottling
- Tasting and preliminary evaluation of wine samples (incoming and outgoing).
- Preparation of wines and creating samples for submission to buyers.
- Liaison and administration with producers during the buying and selling of grapes.
- Coordination of volumes-to-fill needs of inventory, in time.
- Arrangements and paperwork related to transportation of wines.
- Data processing and liaison with the financial department and winemaking team regarding needs/ intakes.
- SAWIS- and office administration.
- Liaising with producers to monitor and control the supply needs.
- Assistance to the Cellar Master and Winemaker to ensure that production process flows smoothly.
- Identify aromas in wines and recommend treatments to improve quality through batching and tasting of inventory.
- Ensure production plans and quality parameters are met in terms of bottling, blending and other cellar operations.
- Oversee cellar process (management of grapes, juices and wines including chemical and ingredient additions)
- Conduct fining trials, defect mitigation processes and general wine risk assessments.
- Provide input to long-term work plan when wine work variables pose a change in work plans.
- Work with team to make harvest decisions for the grapes received, crushing, pressing and fermentation processes.
- Manage supplies and ingredients, including winemaking supplies.
- Ad hoc tasks as required for the smooth functioning of the wine estate.
