Position Summary
DigiCert requires an Associate Corporate Counsel, Product to join our team in Cape Town. As Associate Corporate Counsel, Product you will be responsible to partner closely with cross-functional teams to bring products to the market that delight our customers. You will report directly to the attorney responsible for product counsel matters.
You will process legal issues in a commercial and customer-focused way that mitigates risk while allowing the business the flexibility to deliver timely and excellent products. Some travel, domestic and international, may be required.
What You Will Do
- Maintain open-source compliance program.
- Partner with marketing on customer and internal communications relating to products.
- Assist with managing trademark portfolio.
- Draft and negotiate technology agreements, including inbound licenses and partner agreements.
- Work with partnership teams to negotiate and document partner/distribution relationships.
- Negotiate ancillary agreements, such as NDAs, privacy agreements and security agreements.
- Collaborate with internal business partners and other members of the legal team on the review of DigiCert products, services and initiatives to assess legal compliance, negotiate related legal agreements and provide practical advice.
- Support and build positive relationships with various business partners including sales, marketing, product, engineering, security and support and advise those business units on legal issues they may face through product development and the sale and marketing of DigiCert products.
- Licensed to practice law (and in good standing) in South Africa.
- 2+ years relevant post-law school experience.
- Experience with commercial agreements (essential)
- Excellent business acumen, well-developed problem-solving abilities, high emotional intelligence.
- Basic knowledge of GDPR and data privacy issues.
- Strong work ethic, a hands on mentality, accountability, and the ability to work in an extremely fast-paced, ever-evolving business environment while juggling and prioritizing multiple projects at the same time.
- Adaptable; flexible; comfortable with uncertainty and ambiguity.
- Desire to take on greater responsibilities as skills are developed.
- This role may require up to 15% travel.
- Must be flexible in working hours
- Experience at a top regional, national or international law firm or technology company.
- Previous technology transactions experience.
- Previous trademark experience.
- Knowledge or experience in data security and privacy.
