The core purpose of the Associate Lecturer in Building and Human Settlement Development is to facilitate learning and teaching; create, and develop the acquisition of knowledge and skills by students in order that they are able to function effectively within the profession and as productive members of the broader society.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
- Make a significant contribution to the education and training of undergraduate and the supervision of postgraduate students in the Department of Building and Human Settlements Development.
- Prepare for, participate in, and contribute to engagements with relevant professional bodies, such as the South African Council for the Project and Construction Management Professions (SACPCMP) and the South African Council for the Quantity Surveying Professions (SACQSP).
- Undertake research that will provide answers to some of the most pressing challenges in building and human settlement development
- Contribute to the Departmental research through participation in national and international research events and producing accredited research output.
- Supervise AdvDip and postgraduate candidates as applicable and delegated by the HoD.
In-depth understanding of the theory and application of Quantity Surveying, Construction Management and Housing
/ Human Settlements development management; and,
- Ability to facilitate learning at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.
- Ability to work well with other members of the Department.
- Ability to contribute to the creation of knowledge by virtue of published research in peer-reviewed journals, scholarly books, conferences and/or other texts.
- Ability to participate in and play a central role in administrative duties.
- Have strong people management skills.
- Have strong interpersonal and communication skills (applicants will be required to present a short lecture to evaluate his/her communication skills).
In order to be considered for this appointment, candidates should:
- For Associate Lecturer: a relevant Hons/PGDip /4-year professional degree/BTech or equivalent qualification with 1 year relevant experience in the Building or Human Settlements industries and/or relevant experience in teaching and research at tertiary level would be advantageous.
Registered for a Master or Doctoral qualification. Peer reviewed accredited research output.
Participation in postgraduate supervision and conferences.
