This is an exciting post also open to recent graduates who may wish to increase their clinical skills.

This post may incorporate a significant period of mentorship covering clinical techniques in advance of those usually experienced at college as required. These will include extensive nail surgery experience, Post Tibial blocks, deep enucleations, needling / blunt dissections of verrucae, MSK podiatry and wound care management of the high risk limb.

No previous experience is necessary although an understanding of the philosophy of care aims is desirable.

The candidate may be employed initially at a Band 5 Level but it is anticipated that following a successful development period the successful applicant would progress to Band 6 Level.

This will fall under Annex 21 development and it is anticipated that the development period would last no longer than 12 months.

This does not exclude experienced clinicians entering the post immediately at Band 6 level.

You will have a BSc qualification in Podiatric Medicine and be qualified in L.A and nail surgery, along with registration with the HCPC.

The work base is at Dunbar Hospital, Thurso, Caithness, which is about 2 hours and 30 minutes drive from the Highland capital Inverness.

Caithness is an area of unspoilt, dramatic scenery where you can enjoy a quality lifestyle. You would be living and working in some of the worlds most stunning scenery and enjoy a slower pace of life. Thurso is the largest settlement in Caithness and is based around a harbour; its port of Scrabster being the main gateway to the Orkney Islands beyond.

The highly motivated North Podiatry team is part of the much wider NHS Highland Podiatry Department and all divisions meet regularly.

You will be able to demonstrate a sound professional and clinical knowledge, with understanding of clinical governance, and its application. Of greatest importance is an ability to demonstrate good interpersonal and communication skills, along with the ability to prioritise, plan and organise your workload, are also essential requirements along with a full, current driving license.

This is a permanent 37 hours per week post, worked in accordance with service requirements.

Informal enquiries would be welcomed by Michael Gates / michael.gates@nhs.scot.
