Associate Professor: Agricultural Economics (EKE297)

Duties and responsibilities:
Demonstrate a leadership role in research related to agricultural development economics, smallholder agriculture and agricultural food policy.
Present courses in agricultural development, agricultural policy and research methodology.
Develop and present short learning courses for smallholder and commercial farmers.
Synthesise knowledge through the publication of scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals.
Communicate research findings at scientific conferences.
Source funding for research from international and national funding organisations.
Actively participate in the professional community.
Actively participate in the agricultural community.
Engage in research supervision of postgraduate students at Masters and Doctorate level.
Actively conduct research on smallholder agriculture, agricultural food policy and agricultural development economics.
Inherent requirements:
PhD in Agricultural Economics.
An NRF rating of at least C3 or equivalent status.
A proven research record of relevant publications in accredited journals.
Proven experience in the supervision of graduated MSc students.
Proven experience in the field of agricultural policy and development.
Proven national recognition for specialist expertise and research leadership in the area of smallholder agriculture.
Experience as external examiner for postgraduate (at least MSc or PhD level) students.
Editorial board member or guest editor of high-quality national or international scholarly journals.
Serve as a member of a national scholarly society OR a national committee or agency concerned with research at high education levels, OR show evidence of service as an active member of an international equivalent.
Required competencies:
Good interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) and, the ability to function well in the university’s richly diverse working environment.
Skilled use of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel).

Recommendations:
Questionnaire design.
Cross sectional data analyses using software similar to SPSS, LIMDEP and R.
Broad practical agricultural knowledge.
