Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer:
The successful candidate will be responsible for curriculum development, supervision of postgraduate students, lecturing, and involvement in research in the related field of Computer Science and Information Technology, and running the day-to-day affairs of the Information Technology Department. The responsibilities will also include providing academic leadership in specific areas of Computer Science and Information Technology, administration and management of subject tuition, and management of staff members assigned to the department/Research Projects. The appointed person will also support faculty research initiatives by undertaking research that contributes to the facultys strategic objectives.
The candidate will also be responsible for raising the standard of scholarship and research in the
Department of Information Technology by initiating some research projects in the field, providing mentorship for junior staff members, and supervising postgraduate students up to the doctoral level. In addition, the incumbent will still perform all the functions of academics, including teaching at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels, supervising students, community engagement, curriculum development, academic administration, and conducting research.
Head of Department:
To lead, manage, and develop the department in alignment with institutional and faculty strategy to ensure it archives the highest possible standards of excellence in all its activities. The HOD must manage the department effectively and efficiently in line with the CPUT policies and procedures specifically but not limited to
(i) academic project management;
(ii) research management;
(iii) HR and staff management;
(iv) financial management; and
(v) student management.
Job Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
Minimum requirements: Associate Professor
- A relevant Doctoral Degree in Computer Science and/or Information Technology
- At least ten (10) years of teaching experience in Higher Education of which 3 years should be at the Senior lecturer level comprising of managerial responsibilities.
- Successful supervision of doctoral and master's students to completion within the IT Domain
- A track record of publications in accredited computing journals in the last five years
- Experience in program management and curriculum development
- The candidate must have the expertise to research, teach, and supervise postgraduate students in specific areas of Computer Science: Modern programming languages, Data Science, Machine Learning, Database Systems, Big Data, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, and Computer Security.
- Evidence of grantsmanship
- Should be at Senior Level
- Should have NFR rating
- A relevant Doctoral Degree in Computer Science and/or Information Technology
- At least four (4) years of teaching experience in Higher Education
- Successful supervision of post-graduates to completion
- Record of publications in peer-reviewed journals
- Experience in program management and curriculum development
- The candidate must have the expertise to research, teach, and supervise postgraduate students in specific areas of Computer Science: Modern programming languages, Data Science, Machine Learning, Database Systems, Big Data, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, and Computer Security.
