ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR / Senior lecturer / lecturer (ONE POSITION)

Responsibilities
The incumbent will be responsible for:
- Teaching and developing undergraduate as well as postgraduate modules in the areas of Animal Science and Production Systems focusing on large livestock (dairy and beef cattle);
- Supervising postgraduate students at Masters and Doctoral levels;
- Contributing to the departmental research theme on Ruminant Nutrition (Dairy production, Intensive and extensive beef production) Feeding Management and Sustainable Production Systems;
- Fundraising for research in abovementioned fields;
- Rendering service to the industry through short courses and recognised expertise in dairy nutritional and management.
Lecturer:
- MSc(Agric) in Animal Science specializing in Ruminant Nutrition with emphasis on Dairy and Beef Production as well as registered for a PhD or intent to register during the first year of employment;
- Professional registration with SACNASP;
- At least three years applicable practical, teaching and/ or research experience;
- Research output skills and/or a proven record of research publications in accredited journals as appropriate for the relevant level of appointment, specifically in the field of large stock animal nutrition and management.
- A PhD in Animal Science specializing in Ruminant Nutrition with expertise in dairy and beef nutrition;
- Professional registration with SACNASP;
- Lecturing experience in the specific disciplines at undergraduate and post graduate levels;
- At least five years applicable practical, teaching and/ or research experience;
- Research output skills and/or a proven record of research publications in accredited journals as appropriate for the relevant level of appointment, specifically in the field of large stock nutrition and management;
- Procure and manage research funds.
- Knowledge of the South African Feed Industry and large livestock production systems.
- At least ten years applicable practical, teaching and/ or research experience;
- Research output skills and/or a proven record of research publications in accredited journals as appropriate for the relevant level of appointment, specifically in the field of large stock nutrition and management;
- Proven academic and/ or industry related management skills at senior level;
- Experience in teaching and a track record of accomplished research;
- Experience in presenting short courses;
- Experience of procuring and managing research grants:
- Knowledge of the South African Feed Industry and large livestock production systems.
- Proficient in English with the ability to function effectively in a multi-lingual environment;
- Good interpersonal and organizational skills;
- Conflict management skills;
- Member of Animal Science and or discipline related societies.
- NRF rating;
- Member of SASAS.

The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbents level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
