Roles And Responsibilities
- Must cover the Presidency and all government departments
- Must have a good grasp of South Africas legal/judicial set-up;
- Must report on political developments of national importance;
- Regularly write breaking and agenda-setting stories;
- Guide legal, judicial and political correspondents and their coverage;
- Must write regular features and analysis of political trends and debates both in print and online;
- Generate exclusive political stories and interviews for City Press on a weekly basis;
- Initiate ideas for political investigations and analysis on a regular basis.
- Establish and maintain strong network of political contacts that will set City Press apart;
- Must be able to contribute at least three online stories during the week and two breaking and insightful stories for Sunday;
- Must contribute multimedia elements and suggestions to enhance presentation of stories;
- Must cover the three layers of government, local, provincial and national and identify relevant stories for City Press
- Must also have a grasp of the policies and developments within the major opposition parties
- To also contribute to social media reporting, online and print.
- Must report on developments in the legal sphere;
- Must be a well-connected, established and a leading political journalist;
- A strong ability to break legal, judicial and political stories
- Minimum of three years experience in mainstream journalism with a strong portfolio of political coverage.
- Relevant degree/Qualification in journalism would be an advantage
- An inspirational leader and a team player;
- Exceptional writing skills in English;
- A good grasp of African political developments and trends;
- Solid experience of digital platforms and passion for working in an online environment.
- Valid drivers licence is essential.
