Financial Accountant
REPORTING TO
Financial Manager
DIRECT REPORTS
Dependent on operational requirements
PURPOSE OF THE JOB
Initiates and prepares financial accounts according to sound financial and accounting principles. Reviews financial processes and reconciliations ensuring that financial information is accurate.
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
Financial Perspective
Contributes To Cost Efficiencies
- Demonstrates budget and cost awareness and proactively identifies and implements cost saving initiative.
- Identifies and escalates potential risks that could result in increased costs.
- Follows procurement standards and ensures adherence to the prescribed budget and time frames.
Financial Accounting
- Prepares month-end trial balance and journals including depreciation, inventory, prepayments, provisions and accruals and completes the month-end close.
- Review supplier reconciliations.
- Reconciles and clears the general ledger control accounts.
- Ensures all balance sheet accounts are reconciled and signed off on a monthly basis within month-end deadlines.
- Prepares and submits tax calculations and VAT submissions.
- Validates and authorises all financial reconciliation.
- Prepares supporting documentation for and assist with the half year end review as well year end end audit.
- Ensuring the efficient management of company resources in accordance with the stipulations of relevant legislation, including Companies Act, International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) principles, King (III) and others.
- Ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial information, reporting and disclosure requirements, internal controls and management information systems.
People Management And Leadership
- Development of staff within the finance function.
- Manage performance of direct reports ensuring agreement of annual goals, measuring performance against agreed goals and dealing with non-performance accordingly.
- Talent management of direct reports, including career developments and paths for all staff and succession planning for key positions.
- Ensure that the working environment contributes to improving staff morale and increased productivity.
- Alignment to the organisations transformation objectives through departmental processes.
- Coaching and mentoring of direct reports
- Ensuring a healthy and safe work environment for employees.
Supplier And Stakeholder Relations Management
- Manages supplier and stakeholder expectations and requirements to deliver effective and efficient accounting services to the business in line with company values and standards.
- Drives supplier and stakeholder satisfaction through the provision of accounting services.
- Builds and maintains key stakeholder relationships including:
- Financial Manager, GM: Mine and HODs.
- Negotiate with internal and external stakeholders to promote the business and service objectives of the company.
- Ensure that the needs of organisational stakeholders are prioritised and managed including:
- Colleagues and employees;
- Suppliers;
- Auditors.
- Works with the Financial Manager, HODs, colleagues and staff members to discuss issues, coordinate activities, or resolve problems.
- Matric (Grade 12)
- BCom (Hons)(Accounting)
- Mining Tax course or similar
- 3 5 years relevant financial accounting experience;
- Mining industry experience advantageous;
- SAGE X3 experience advantageous;
- Attention to detail and neat execution of work
