BDO has a vacancy for a Corporate Tax Consulting Manager within the Corporate Tax Consulting business unit in the Tax Department. The incumbent will be reporting to the National Corporate Tax Consulting Directors.
- Assisting BDO to achieve its financial targets, driving the BDO brand, business development, technical tax competence and client service in line with BDO values.
- Interpreting and applying theoretical knowledge to practical business solutions by utilising a sound knowledge of income tax and corporate law.
- Drafting technically correct opinions and reports for review and reviewing tax advice to be provided to clients and the audit department.
- Gathering information from different sources by using effective research tools.
- Assisting with research and preparation of proposals and fee quotes.
- Identifying income tax issues arising at clients and using various tools and techniques to provide advice and recommendations on how to solve them.
- Adapting to a changing work environment and accommodating changing client demands.
- Liaising with audit partners and audit staff with regards to tax issues.
- Liaising with SARS.
- Litigation, arbitration, conciliation, mediation, negotiation and other means of pre-empting and settling disputes.
- Visiting clients to remediate tax issues and assisting clients with SARS audit and queries.
- Managing and maintaining client relationships.
- Preparing and managing budgets, debtors and monthly invoices and administrative tasks related to practice management.
- Producing accurate work and client deliverables to a high technical standard while coaching and mentoring junior staff.
- Assisting with the preparation and conduct of tax technical workshops both internally and to clients.
- Assisting with producing tax technical literature for publication.
- Managing and developing subordinates in the corporate tax consulting team.
- Quality control of technical deliverables.
- The successful candidate must possess an LLB or comparable law degree, and be an admitted attorney in good standing with the relevant Law Society. Alternatively, he or she must be a qualified CA(SA).
- LLM (Tax Law) or HDip (Tax) or a comparable postgraduate tax law qualification is required.
- SAICA and/or SAIT
- Minimum of 5 years experience in corporate tax and technical advisory
- Managerial experience
- Tax structuring and mergers and acquisition experience advantageous
- Commercial experience advantageous
- International tax planning advantageous
- Experience in working with and interpreting financial accounting records
- Experience in presenting tax technical matters internally and to clients would be advantageous
