Primary Purpose

The core function of this role is to provide legal and administrative support to various business units in the Bank. This entails inter alia, drafting and reviewing basic legal documents such as standard and non-complex contracts, facility letters, guarantees, pledges and cessions. Liaising with external stakeholders such as attorneys instructed by the bank, counterparties and court officials. Legal review to confirm compliance with conditions of sanction and legal requirements before pay-out to customers. Processing court orders and regulatory directives to ensure compliance and mitigation of risk. Assisting with any other related tasks in the Legal department as may be assigned to by the line manager. Filing and record keeping.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements
  • Matric or equivalent essential
  • Paralegal Diploma
Experience
  • Experience in banking or related sector.
  • Knowledge of legal environment and processes
  • Minimum of 1 to 2 years work experience involving any quasi legal and/or administrative duties preferably from banking or financial services.
Ideal
  • BCom Law or LLB
  • Experience in banking would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of Legal environment and processes.
Duties and Responsibilities

FINANCE

Financial Management
  • Protect the Bank or its customers from incurring any financial loss.
  • Pursue potential cost saving for the Bank where possible.
CUSTOMER CENTRICITY

Stakeholder Management to drive Service Excellence
  • Identify problem areas and ensure corrective action is taken.
  • Analyse and assess business/customer requirements to provide timeous solutions.
  • Responsiveness: speed of responses, reaction time, going the extra mile, turnaround time.
  • Building and managing relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
OPERATIONAL EXCELLENCE

Operational Management
  • Review client documents against legal requirements and highlight any risks to the business.
  • Review and understand contracts and other legal documents to meet Bank requirements.
  • Draft facility letters, guarantees, cessions, pledges and other documents.
  • Check and validate documents prior to authorising payments.
