- To develop and conduct bioinformatics analysis for pathogens under surveillance in both routine and research activities of wastewater-based epidemiology

- Perform advanced bioinformatics analysis and interpretation of data produced from next-generation sequencing systems as well as develop and operate data analysis pipelines
- Develop appropriate tools and pipelines and improve existing tools to optimize and enhance the provision of surveillance services, including troubleshooting problems encountered during sequence analysis
- Design, conduct, and publish relevant bioinformatics research related to vaccine-preventable diseases and wastewater surveillance activities
- Lead research projects and funding applications in bioinformatics
- Work closely within existing national and international collaborations, and also create new collaborations, to generate and/or provide data analysis reports, project reports and perform custom analysis as requested
- Contribute to the formal teaching, supervision, and assessment of students and interns to ensure that their knowledge and understanding of bioinformatics meet academic and/or degree requirements
- Train Honours and Masters and PhD candidates, Registrars, and technical staff in bioinformatics skills
- Liaise with the Senior Scientist on the team to plan and implement total quality management of the research laboratory to ensure accurate and reliable sequencing results
- Take responsibility for overseeing and monitoring software tools and bioinformatics data resources in liaison with the Data Manager on the project
- Master's Degree in Bioinformatics or related field of study
- PhD in Bioinformatics or a related field of study is desirable
- Minimum 3 years experience in a diagnostic, public health, or research laboratory
- Experience in working independently with next-generation sequencing data analysis for infectious diseases
- Proven project leadership with a record of attracting grant funding
- Research methodology understanding evidenced by a portfolio of project protocols
- Good Laboratory Practice training and quality assurance experience
- A minimum of three publications or abstracts presented at conferences
