To enhance statistical support in the Faculty, the HSRO wishes to recruit two Biostatisticians (Lecturer/Senior Lecturer) to contribute towards conducting courses/workshops, biostatistics consultations, research, student supervision and lecturing, as required.
Qualifications
A Masters (with 5 or more years of experience) or a PhD in biostatistics, statistics, or quantitative epidemiology in the field of Health Sciences.
Requirements
- Evidence of teaching experience at postgraduate level
- Publication of at least 5 (or 8 for Senior Lecturer) articles in peer-reviewed DoHET accredited journals
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a dynamic multi-disciplinary team
- Interest in and commitment to building research capacity
- Proficient use of Stata and Statistica
- Use of other software like R, SAS, SPSS and Python can be an added advantage
- Willingness to travel to the various academic hospitals to provide biostatistical teaching and support
- Teach on the HSRO statistics short courses/workshops as part of the research support to Faculty staff and post-graduate students
- Provide statistical consultations to academic staff and students within the Faculty
- Actively participate in building research capacity and contribute to research supervision of postgraduate students within the faculty
- Actively participate in the academic endeavours of the Health Sciences Research Office and Faculty
- Teach biostatistics modules within the postgraduate (MSc, MPH, MMED and PhD) programmes in the Faculty, as required
The remuneration package offered will depend on qualifications and experience and is subject to the University of the Witwatersrand criteria.
