Business Technology Analyst
Role Purpose
Identifies and delivers automation solutions within content operations
Works as a liaison among researchers in order to elicit, analyze, communicate, and validate requirements for automating processes and sub-processes
Understands content production constraints and opportunities in the context of the requirements and designs, develops and implements small solutions that enable the organization to achieve its goals.
Ensures business objectives are identified, understood, and accounted for in the development of technology solutions.
Works with research teams to evaluate, and understand business/user/functional requirements, and designs, develops, tests, and implements solutions that enhance the value and timeliness of the company’s content.
Generates efficiencies and effectiveness in each of the content production phases (content acquisition, curation, matching, capturing, validation) by utilizing various programming and SQL skills to solve ad-hoc automation tasks
Responsibilities
Understand existing processes as they relate to the Research and Content Operations function
Engage users and conduct on-site observation to ascertain functions and work performed
Understand current functionality and dependencies of the primary internal content management application and associated offline tools
Coordinates multiple small and/or medium size automation projects dealing with complex data and multiple open domain sources
Typical responsibilities will include identifying existing solutions or developing ones to acquire, manipulate, curate, match, capture and validate content.
Initiate and design, build and implement such small offline automation solutions
Pro-actively present solutions for consideration to integrate into the central editorial workflow solution.
Drives DQA (Data Quality Assurance) projects; coordinates business-as-usual and ad hoc activities to improve content quality and delivery and/or reduce cost.
Responsible for understanding research requirements for web source monitoring and scraping; capable of detailing this requirement for internal tech teams to extract or
Able to configure self-help change detection and scraping robots to meet the content acquisition requirements of research teams
Identifies and evaluates functional feasibility of existing internal and external automation solutions to improve content quality and delivery. Initiates proof of concept projects thereon and provides feedback on feasibility ito functional and non-functional requirements.
Understands process requirements, functional requirements, validates solutions, conducts testing, delivers process rollouts for new solutions
May act as escalation point for functional team or business unit for own tools developed
Partners with research groups to execute ad-hoc bulk data updates and related content projects
Provides routine and ad hoc status updates and coordinates/facilitates meetings as needed.
Interacts with stakeholders (possibly international), team members, and management within or across organizations for the purpose of communication, collaboration, and influencing
Provides training and support to the user community
Scope and Impact
Coverage focused predominately on Cape Town office but includes interaction with research offices in India, Penang, Singapore, Poland, US, Chile
Technical / Professional Skills & Behavioral Competencies
Strong technical ability in terms of programming, scripting, querying and working with all forms of data
Advanced VBA, data handling and text analytics skills
Advanced SQL experience
Engaging communicator with good interpersonal skills
Highly capable at manipulating and extracting data – detail oriented
Acutely familiar with content acquisition methods, scraping, data manipulation, matching, capturing, validation, and basic workflow design
Well organized, strong at planning, and prioritizing work.
Strong problem solving skills, logical and deductive decision maker
Proven abilities in development of innovative solutions and process automation – non language specific
Proficient in Visio or similar process charting beneficial
An inquisitive independent person with a strong aptitude for learning
Certifications / Education
BComm Business Information Systems or similar degree
Professional Experience
Minimum of 3 years Business Technology Analysis experience
Experience in a technical capacity, writing scripts, developing small applications and automation solutions
Knowledge of operational processes for managing content beneficial
Experience in a workflow intensive operation and proven track record of understanding requirements, proposing, driving & delivering high-quality solutions
Demonstrable experience in developing and implementing content management process automation tools to drive efficiency
Previous exposure to Risk and Compliance industry beneficial
