Our diverse team of climate specialists, sustainability experts and social entrepreneurs are developing innovative solutions tailored to the needs of not only specific businesses but also entire sectors.Summary of Role:As a Carbon Advisor (Junior-Mid level), you will play a pivotal role in helping organisations reduce their carbon footprint and transition towards net zero. Your primary focus will be on building and maintaining strong relationships with clients, identifying new business opportunities, and effectively closing deals. You will provide expert guidance, advice, and strategic solutions to clients, enabling them to mitigate their climate impact. You will also be responsible for the sales of carbon credits from our diverse portfolio of climate projects. The ideal candidate has a good understanding of carbon emissions, carbon markets and sustainable practises, possesses excellent communication and negotiation skills, and is passionate about sustainability and climate change.
Key Responsibilities
- Carbon Footprint Assessment: Calculate and report on scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions, with demonstrated experience in key topic areas, including setting inventory boundaries, accounting for renewable energy, and accounting for supply chain emissions using multiple approaches (LCA/Product Carbon Footprint, supplier-specific data)
- Carbon Reduction Strategy: Develop high-level tailored carbon reduction plans and strategies for clients, taking into account their unique circumstances, goals, and industry requirements. Provide guidance on best practices and innovative solutions to minimize environmental impact.
- Monitoring and Reporting: Track and measure clients' progress in reducing their carbon footprint, regularly providing performance reports and recommending adjustments to optimise their carbon footprint
- Regulatory Compliance: Stay up-to-date with regulations related to the SA carbon tax, national climate policies and GHG measurement best practise. Ensure clients' compliance with relevant legislation and assist them in understanding and meeting reporting requirements.
- Training and Education: Deliver training sessions and workshops to educate clients and their employees on sustainable practices, carbon reduction techniques, and environmental awareness.
- Conduct market research and analysis to identify trends, customer needs, and competitive positioning.
- Develop and implement a strategic carbon offset sales plan to achieve revenue targets and maximize the sale of carbon credits.
- Educate clients on the benefits of carbon offsetting, addressing any concerns or objections they may have.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with existing and potential clients, providing excellent customer service and support.
- Negotiate and close sales agreements with clients
- Stay informed about emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in carbon reduction and carbon markets, and sustainable development
- Attend conferences, industry events, and networking opportunities to expand professional network and represent the company.
- Bachelor's degree in business, environmental science, sustainability or a related field. A master's degree is beneficial
- 3+ years' experience in corporate GHG emissions accounting across multiple sectors, acquired either in-house or in a consultancy environment
- Demonstrated experience in conducting GHG inventories with organizations across multiple sectors (retail, manufacturing, financial, energy, etc.)
- Familiarity with carbon accounting and reporting standards and programs (e.g., ISO 14064, GHG Protocol, CDP)
- Knowledgeable about current and emerging policy and regulatory drivers of GHG emissions disclosure and management. Preferred experience includes familiarity with SBTi's
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement basic carbon reduction strategies
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively convey complex information to diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated negotiation and closing skills, with a track record of meeting or exceeding sales targets, is beneficial
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail.
- Proficiency in data analysis and using specialized software for carbon footprint calculations.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
