This role offers a unique opportunity to shape the financial and operational landscape, contributing significantly to the organization's strategic objectives and cultural ethos. As the Chief Financial Officer, you will set the financial strategy, oversee teams and systems as well as ensure optimal support for impactful programs. As a key member of the executive team, the CFO contributes to the overall strategic direction and plays a vital role in implementing our three-year strategy.
Managing a division of 20 employees (5 direct reports), the CFO interacts closely with the Board of Directors, overseeing an annual budget of approximately $12 million and guiding long-term financial planning. Confidentiality is therefore essential in this role.
Responsibilities
- Drive the development and oversight of the organization's financial model, providing strategic guidance for planning, decision-making, and ensuring financial accountability.
- Set an example as a leader, fostering the growth and development of high-performance teams.
- Establish and structure finance and operations teams to deliver excellent services, optimize operational efficiency, maintain consistent visibility, and generate strategic insights for impactful outcomes.
- Collaborate with the Endowment Manager and Investment Committee to manage and grow endowment assets, actively contributing to the sustainability of the institution.
- Work with the leadership team to identify and prepare the organization for risks across diverse operational areas.
- The CFO will exemplify organizational values and lead the cultural aspects of the organization.
- +5 years of multi-unit executive financial leadership and management experience
- Bachelors degree in Finance, Accounting, and Business Administration.
- CA (SA) or CGMA qualification is strongly preferred, and an MBA is a plus.
- Proven track record in driving strategy, leading change, maintaining consistent excellence, and delivering business value with a result-oriented approach.
- Extensive experience in people management and leadership with demonstrated success in recruiting, developing, organizing, and growing teams for continuous advancement.
- Proven expertise in designing, implementing, and optimizing processes and systems.
- Skills in relationship building to foster internal and external partnerships.
- Proficiency in applicable standards and practices, with confidence in managing banking transactions and meeting business requirements across diverse geographies, particularly in Africa and the United States.
- Experience of working in a Pan African and NGO environment is valuable.
- Proficiency in an additional language commonly spoken in Africa is beneficial.
