Job Background/context:
Given the increasing industry and regulatory focus around control-related tasks, this role is critical to maintaining a robust control environment across multiple desks and businesses. The role is key to enabling business growth through maintaining a sound control environment, facilitating new business initiatives, product expansion and driving technology change within the business. The role will cover all asset classes ex-equities for the markets business. The jobholder should be able to work well in a team environment within the country/business as well as manage matrix reporting lines and should be able to function without close supervision.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide updates related to financial performance , opportunities, risk and control issues, escalation points, regulatory engagement
- Support the business in facilitating new business initiatives, product expansion and driving technology change within the business
- Create and provide effective metrics to stakeholders and management teams
- Build strong relationship with country product, business and function partners and coordinate effectively across the South Africa Markets team.
- Liaison with desk heads, support functions building relationships with control and support functions to develop and deliver on business strategy
- Provide support for the control framework for the business including but not limited to Risk & Controls testing, operational loss processes, investigation and developing and driving corrective actions.
- Seek out and ensure corrective actions are implemented for control related issues across the spectrum of control functions with a goal of driving a robust, harmonized business model for the country.
- Have a critical mind and question processes and frameworks with a preventive business framework
- Preparation of meeting materials, ensuring minutes are accurately recorded and tracking follow-up items
- Relay business knowledge, product knowledge, and requirements to business and internal support functions where required.
- Communicate (written and oral) information within and between the businesses and support functions.
- Build effective prioritisation skills as the job entails dealing with multiple conflicting priorities in a time- pressured environment.
- Other ad hoc administration tasks that support the activities of the business including PowerPoint presentations and excel analysis.
- Business support for Internal and external exams/audits
- >5 years of experience in financial markets either in the business or business support functions
- Exposure to financial markets related products and experience would be an advantage
- Excellent communications skills (written / verbal) at all organisational levels. People management experience
- Results/task orientated with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to manage and prioritise effectively and resolve conflicting priorities.
- Ability to work well as part of a team and autonomously.
- High level of computer literacy especially in the Microsoft Office product suite
- Excellent academic background educated to a minimum of degree level or sufficient industry experience
- Financial / Project management/accounting degree / Master degree would be a plus.
