Introduction

NORTH-WEST UNIVERSITY (POTCHEFSTROOM CAMPUS) FACULTY OF HEALTH SCIENCES DEPARTMENT: MEDICINE USAGE IN SOUTH AFRICA (MUSA) POSITION NUMBER: P000336 VACANCY: CLINICAL PRECEPTOR PEROMNES GRADE: P9 EMPLOYMENT TYPE: FIXED - TERM APPOINTMENT (15 MONTHS) PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: Due to an increase in research responsibilities and the number of post-graduate students, we need this position to assist the subject-group Pharmacy Practice with practice and clinical training (dispensing skills) in a simulation pharmacy and assist with other pre-and post-graduate student administration. Key performance areas include clinical practice training, professional responsibilities, administrative responsibilities and community engagement activities in clinical practice.

Job Description

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Clinical Practice Training (Pre and post-graduate training assistance)
  • Simulation training: Assist with dispensing simulation training and practical assessments in the Simulation Pharmacy. Programmes: Unsolved, Allegra, ProPharm, RxSolutions and MyDispense.
  • Provide students with clinical and professional training, supervision, and guidance in practice and simulations.
  • Assist in the administering of practical examinations in practice and simulation.
  • Facilitate the integration of theory and practice and students problem-solving skills.
  • Work integrated learning (WIL): Administration of WIL on the WISL programme by working at least 2 hours per day on WISL system and/or LIWC database.
  • Assist Pharmacy Practice module coordinators, as well as other modules, with the identification and tracking of students who register/arrive late for the first semester to ensure that they do not fall behind.
  • Assist MPharm students with the assessment of portfolios and assignments.
  • Assist the Research Director in the presenting of the Orientation programme and other workshops for MPharm students.
Professional Responsibilities
  • South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) registrations: SAPC. registrations of first year BPharm students and academic interns (post-graduate students). Communication with students and the SAPC about the annual fees of senior students.
  • PSSA registration and Indemnity Insurance management together with SAPC registration.
  • Assist with SAPC and other role-players visits to the School and MUSA.
Administrative support
  • EFundi/Microsoft support: Support BPharm and MPharm first-year students who struggle with eFundi and other Microsoft apps and arrange training and assistance from CTL and IT.
  • Preparation of the simulation laboratory for practical demonstrations/ classes and exams as well as cleaning up after demonstrations/ classes and exams.
  • Support the Research Director in organising the annual Orientation programme for MPharm students.
  • Support the Research Director annually with the selection process (organising paper selection and interviews).
  • Schedule duty rosters for students practicals and meetings.
  • Assist students daily with enquiries.
  • Assist with white coats and name badges: arrange the fitting ordering, embroidering and hand-out of sponsored white coats and name badges for students.
  • Mims: order Mims and arrange transport and distribution of Mims books for pre- and post-graduate students and staff.
Community Engagement
  • Support post-graduate students with pharmacy practice-related projects in clinical environments.
  • Document all MUSA and Pharmacy Practice clinical practice projects in the NWU community engagement database.
Minimum Requirements

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
  • A bachelors degree in Pharmacy (NQF level 8).
  • Registered as a Pharmacist with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC).
  • A minimum of 4 years Pharmacy Practice experience.
Added Advantages
  • A Master of Pharmacy in Pharmacy Practice or related degree.
  • Be a member in any of the pharmaceutical associations.
Key Functional/ Technical Competencies
  • Clinical and Pharmacy Practice.
  • Computer skills (MS Office, email, internet).
  • Demonstration of language proficiency to function optimally in the various multilingual environments.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of dispensing programmes for example Unsolved, Allegra, ProPharm, RxSolutions and MyDispense.
