Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced and dynamic Senior Attorney/Advocate with a minimum of 10 years of post-admission experience to join our team in Mauritius. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in banking law, tax law, commercial law, mergers & acquisitions, and litigation. Additional expertise in intellectual property law is a significant bonus. The role requires a passion for Africa and the ability to travel within the continent.
Responsibilities
- Provide expert legal advice and strategic guidance on banking law, tax law, commercial law, mergers & acquisitions, and litigation matters.
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of legal documents including contracts, agreements, and legal opinions.
- Represent clients in negotiations, mediations, arbitrations, and assist with court proceedings within local counsel.
- Conduct legal research and analysis to stay abreast of developments in relevant areas of law and provide proactive advice to clients.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure legal compliance and mitigate risks.
- Handle complex legal matters independently and efficiently, demonstrating strong problem-solving skills.
- Advise on intellectual property matters as needed, leveraging any expertise in this area to add value to the team and clients.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships, providing excellent client service and delivering innovative legal solutions.
- Support business development efforts, including identifying new opportunities and contributing to the growth and success of the firm.
- Travel within Africa as required to meet client needs and participate in business development activities.
- Advise on International Tax matters and cross border deal making, leveraging any expertise in this area to add value to the team and clients.
- Admitted Attorney/Advocate with a minimum of 7 years of post-admission experience.
- Strong expertise in banking law, tax law, and commercial law, with a proven track record of success in these areas.
- Experience in mergers & acquisitions and litigation is essential.
- Additional expertise in intellectual property law is highly desirable.
- Excellent legal drafting, negotiation, and advocacy skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Fluency in English is required, proficiency in French would be an advantage.
