As the Lead Commissioning Engineer with a focus on battery energy storage systems (BESS), you will oversee and manage a group of commissioning engineers to make sure that BESS projects in Freedom Won are installed, tested, and successfully commissioned. You will play a key role in driving the efficient deployment of BESS systems and supporting the transition to renewable energy in South Africa.
Reporting to the Engineering Manager - (Projects and Services)
Key Responsibilities:
Technical Expertise and Coordination
Co-ordinate and oversee a team of commissioning engineers. Be well-versed in energy storage technologies, products, and applications. Collaborate with the project managers, design teams, and other stakeholders to ensure effective communication and coordination throughout the project lifecycle. Through the provision of technical expertise and support, you will help the team troubleshoot any issues that may develop during the commissioning process.
Coordinate and prioritize commissioning activities, ensuring efficient utilization of resources and adherence to project schedules.
Safety And Reporting
Oversee the installation, testing and commissioning of BESS projects, ensuring compliance with design specifications, safety standards and regulatory requirements. Conduct regular site visits and inspections to monitor the progress of commissioning activities, identify potential issues and provide guidance for resolution. Foster a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement within the team, implementing best practices and lessons from previous projects.
Review and analyse commissioning reports generated by the team members, ensuring accuracy, completeness, and adherence to established protocols.
Provide progress reports to senior management, highlighting key achievements, challenges, and recommendations for process improvement.
Communication and Administration
As a commissioning engineer you should possess the following skills- excellent communication skills and problem-solving skills, regimental in record keeping, the ability to plan ahead and technical writing expertise.
Develop commissioning plans, procedures, and documentation templates to standardize and streamline the commissioning process.
Essential Requirements
- Degree/Postgraduate diploma in Engineering
- 7 year working experience in Electrical industry.
- Strong technical understanding of energy storage systems, renewable energy technologies, and power systems (beneficial).
- Working knowledge of SAP and OHS Act
- Excellent communication skills
- Strong working skills on CAD
- Ability to comprehend and convey complex technical information to diverse audiences.
- Proficiency Microsoft Office Suite, and technical software tools
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
