The South African National Council for the Blind (SANCB) is inviting applications for the position of Communication and Publications Officer.
Job Location: Pretoria, SANCB Head Office.
Place within the Organisation: Communication and Publications Officer is part of the Fundraising and Public Relations Division, and will be supervised by the Divisional Manager: Fundraising and Public Relations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Publish (research, write, copy-edit, proofread and collate stories commissioned from editor) the organisations official magazine 3 x per year
- Publish (research, write, edit, proofread) the electronic newsletter monthly (Drupal, html, CMS, bulk mail server skills and knowledge)
- Publish (research, write, edit, proofread) Biennial reports of the organisation
- Draft content for the organizations direct mail program for all mailings and donor newsletters
- Interviewing skills
- General Communications
- Design and implement media strategy
- Publish (write, edit, brand) press releases for the organisation for all functions
- Media monitoring (includes knowledge and ability to adjust media values as is necessary for eg, reducing overly inflated values.)
- Media segmentation and demographic analysis
- Media liaison
- Run the social media platforms of the organization integrated with website content
- Ability to plan, conduct, maintain an effective social media campaign for various purposes (fundraising, awareness, PR, advocacy etc)
- Digital marketing skills
- Ability to write copy with focus on SEO
- Ensure that Council’s branding guidelines are adhered to internally and externally
- Liaise with suppliers about printing, design and layout of all corporate stationery
- Design and print organisational certificates (Adobe Photoshop or similar)
- Website Management (Drupal, html)
- Intranet Management (html, CSS, CS5)
- Writing and drafting of proposals
- Align media activities around fundraising needs
- Support all events and special campaigns
- Writing statements on behalf of the organisation and effectively respond to the media
- Editing and proofreading of documents
- Compilation of presentations eg. Power point slides etc
- Strong research skills (ability to work across a variety of subject matters and fields of expertise related to the work of the organization)
Requirements:
- Communications , Journalism, or Marketing Degree / Diploma, with substantial experience in the NGO environment
- Assertive and professional conduct, strong interpersonal skills
- Media Liaison
- Audience segmentation, targeting, demographic analysis
- Knowledge of the SA media environment and relevant media/publication structures and houses
- Microsoft Windows Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint
- HTML and CMS skills
- Familiarity with Drupal and photo-editing software or similar graphic design suite
- Strong written and verbal skills – strong command of the English language; fluency in an additional South African language would be advantageous
- Dynamic, vibrant personality, to be able to interact with stakeholders and passionate about the transfer of information to others
