Key Purpose
The Content Lead: Vitality is responsible for the content deliverables of the Discovery Vitality brand. The Content Lead combines the creativity and skill of a specialist writer with leadership, organisational and problem-solving abilities to meet the content objectives of the portfolio. In this role, the Content Lead has the responsibility of creating create compelling thought leadership, brand and social media content for Discovery Vitality, working closely with the CEO of Discovery Vitality, the Head of Vitality Marketing, Vitality Marketing team and the Head of Content. The Content Lead also plays a key role in coordinating, planning and collaborating with various internal, marketing, editorial and project teams to deliver high-quality content for various target audiences and platforms.
Areas of responsibility may include but not limited to
- Develop content in various forms, including LinkedIn content for Discovery Vitality executives, including the CEO of Vitality, as well as press releases, opinion pieces, media responses, brochure content, website content, infographics, social media campaigns and content, and media FAQS.
- Identify opportunities where data insights from business can be leveraged in content.
- Develop and maintain a thought leadership content strategy, calendar and content assets based on Vitalitys IP and research, and tailoring this content for media.
- Meet with editorial and project teams, social media and PR teams to brainstorm and develop content ideas for all media channels.
- Develop social media campaigns and concepts to support Vitalitys thought leadership position.
- Collaborate with the business team to understand content priorities and solutions.
- Present content opportunities and solutions to the CEO of Vitality and other executives, and the Head of Marketing for Vitality.
- Play a key role in the crisis communication team, and develop key messages and talking points for spokespeople, where required.
- Conduct interviews with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to produce content according to client briefs.
- Develop and manage content strategies and plans according to the marketing strategy.
- Brief internal and external providers and agencies on marketing and content deliverables.
- Supervise freelance writers and other content producers, when required for different projects and briefs.
- Work with various internal and external stakeholders, including clients and suppliers.
- Supervise a freelancer who supports content development for the portfolio .
- Maintain professional and technical knowledge on wellness and lifestyle topics and trends.
- Maintain and improve writing and content development skills, and stay abreast of social media platform and media relations trends and changes.
- Contribute to team success by ensuring team commitment and cohesion.
- Play a leadership role within the Content Team, develop and coach other writers and freelance writers within the Content Team to support the Vitality portfolio.

- Research local and international trends and business enablers and make recommendations on content and editorial plans and strategies.

- Identify problems and create solutions.
- Excellent writing and content development skills and expertise across a range of content types, including thought leadership and social media content.
- Expertise in writing on wellness, health and lifestyle trends, with a passion for wellness topics.
- Ability to work under pressure, and deliver quality work with quick turn-around times.
- Ability to develop content strategies, plans and campaigns targeted at various audiences.
- Ability to engage with senior management within the organisation.
- Ability to translate complex concepts into engaging and simple content.
- Ability to understand the voice of the organisation and adapt the tone of the content to the audience.

- Matric and appropriate tertiary qualification (degree with marketing, communication, journalism, writing or language components).
- Extensive writing experience.
- Background in writing on wellness, health, and lifestyle trends and topics.
- Minimum 5 8 years experience (PR, editorial, social media, communication, or agency experience).
- Digital marketing and social media experience.
