NORTH-WEST UNIVERSITY (POTCHEFSTROOM CAMPUS) DIVISION: FINANCE AND FACILITIES DEPARTMENT: STUDENT FINANCES AND FINANCIAL RELATED SYSTEMS POSITION NUMBER: P001482 VACANCY: CONTROL OFFICER PEROMNES GRADE: 11 EMPLOYMENT TYPE: PERMANENT APPOINTMENT PURPOSE OF THE POSITION: To create a safe and secure environment for students, academic staff, support staff, contractors and visitors (Campus Community) at the North-West University through management and control of team members, response to reported incidents and informing management accordingly. Incumbent must be prepared to work shifts.
Job Description
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Communication and Stakeholder Relations
- Communicate effectively with all stakeholders with regards to protection services through various mediums.
- Prepare and present formal and informal security operational briefings to members of the NW (Potch Campus)
- Ensure adherence to the vision, mission, values and Code of Ethics on a daily basis for a unitary NWU Protection Services.
- Ensure adherence on campus regulations.
- Ensure adherence to standard operating procedures.
- Joint accountability with leadership team regarding the effective and professional management of the NWU Protection Services and contracted Security.
- Inspect all criminal profiles, matrixes and crime hot spots areas.
- Ensure that all incidents are attended to before the end of the shift and all relevant documents and statements have been completed.
- Ensure that crime, incidents, and information are disseminated to management and CCF.
- Ensure that crime information was recorded on Incident Reporting System and CAS.
- Ensure that statements/accident reports are completed and attended to timeously.
- Ensure that daily deployments are done according to the Crime Threat Analysis (CTA) and Crime Pattern Analysis (CPA).
- Ensure completion of all reports of patrol officers before reporting off duty.
- Ensure that resource management is done efficiently.
- Ensure clear work allocations and instructions to employees.
- Ensure the delivery of effective patrolling/access control in order to ensure a safe campus for the NWU-Potchefstroom Campus Community.
- Maintain efficient Control Room administrative duties.
- Ensure that physical crime prevention measures are conducted within regulations and policy directives.
- Ensure the identification of high-risk buildings, assets and compile reports and recommendations regarding the safety of buildings and assets.
- Ensure adherence and compliance to service level agreements between Protection Services and relevant stakeholders including overseeing outsourced security services.
- Identify training needs for NWU (Potchefstroom Campus) Protection Officers and Control Room Operators.
- Implement remedial action as and when required for NWU (Potchefstroom Campus) Protection Officers and Control Room Operators.
- Ensure the protection of university property and life against fire hazards and other safety risks.
- Manage, and coordinate the maintenance of fire fighting and fire equipment.
- Comply with allocated functions from the disaster management plan to ensure immediate response to relevant disasters.
- Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders an incident response and management plan of catastrophic incidences
- Activate Head: Security as well as the Senior Manager as soon as disaster has been confirmed.
- Ensure that potential hazards and real OHS risks identified are reported to the Line Manager monthly.
- Other efforts to mitigate these risks without endangering oneself and other people.
- OHS Training received/required.
- Ensure compliance with OHS audits, schedules, evacuation drills etc.
- Three (3) reprimands, non-compliance and near misses by staff, students and contractors reported to Line Manager per month.
- Create an enabling leadership culture by developing a shared direction, shared values and alignment and commitment to transform the organisational culture; Foster a participative and developmental leadership style; improve team cohesion, synergy and effectiveness.
- Contribute to the development of Strategic Workforce Plan that builds proportions of African and People with disabilities and implement the Plan.
- Arrange and implement culture improvement interventions, establish a baseline, receive a report and feedback and implement; actively remove engagement barriers.
- Advanced computer literacy skills {Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, and Presentation}.
- Excellent written and verbal communication {Report writing, radio and telephone} skills to effectively function within a multicultural and multilingual environment.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
- Diploma or Advanced Certificate in Security or equivalent (NQF level 6)
- PSIRA registration - Grade A.
- A valid drivers licence.
- A minimum of 2 years experience in the security industry and law enforcement.
- A minimum of 2 years supervisory experience.
- A Management course in Security.
- Knowledge of Contract Management.
- Knowledge of Incident Reporting System.
The annual total remuneration package will be commensurate with the level of appointment as advertised and in line with the NWU policy guidelines.
