Controllers Overview
The Controllers group is responsible for safeguarding the firm's assets and is charged with monitoring the firms liquidity, capital and risk and providing overall financial control and reporting functions. The division is ideal for collaborative individuals who have strong ethics and attention to detail.
YOUR IMPACT
As a Legal Entity Controller you will take complete ownership of the financial reporting and monitoring across a wide range of legal entities. You will develop an in-depth understanding of these entities, including their business strategies, products and associated technical accounting and disclosure requirements. How You Will Fulfil Your Potential
- Preparation, analysis and presentation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting to senior management, directors, and other key stakeholders (predominantly under IFRS/US GAAP)
- Preparation and analysis of financial statements, including resolving complex technical accounting issues and disclosure requirements, and liaising with external auditors and regulatory agencies
- Become subject matter expert for inflows and outflows impacting the Goldman Sachs International Bank South Africa Branch (the Branch), developing an ability to understand the implications of business and market developments on the profitability of the Branch.
- Lead and facilitate periodic reporting to local authorities such as the South African Reserve Bank (SARB), ensuring regular interaction with multiple teams across the firm and across the globe
- Facilitating the quarterly consolidated reporting of the Goldman Sachs Group and Goldman Sachs International Bank with regular interaction with Finance teams in New York and London
- Coordination with multiple teams across the firm - and across the globe - including Product Control, Corporate Treasury, Legal, Compliance, Tax and Transfer Pricing, in a collaborative and problem-solving capacity
- Proactively seeking opportunities to improve our workflows, technology, and integrity of reporting information.
- Develop and evolve the reporting framework in place to ensure adequate capital and financial management oversight as well as reporting in line with the SARB guidelines and other Regulatory requirements
- Attendance and participation in various working groups and forums to ensure adequate oversight from a legal entity control perspective
- Leverage understanding of the business and stakeholder expectations to develop metrics and dashboards for distribution, while ensuring appropriate and timely escalation of issues.
- Involvement in a broad range of cross-divisional projects and initiatives
- Recently qualified accountant (0-2 yrs)
- CA (SA) or equivalent
- Able to demonstrate technical accounting knowledge in your current area of expertise
- Experience in preparation of audited financial statements under IFRS an advantage
- A track record of improving processes and adding value to clients/stakeholders
- Strong analytical skill
- You demonstrate an aptitude for problem solving with the ability to exercise sound and balanced judgment in a highly regulated environment
