Job Purpose:
Working as part of the Active Network team to plan, build, and operate a reliable optical network.
The Transmission Engineer will focus on the Aggregation and Core layers of the Network, provide OTN/DWDM expert-level expertise and support the entire infrastructure in meeting the Business's bandwidth requirements to ensure consumers have the best and fastest experiences.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with Active Network teams to define network requirements and specifications for OTN/DWDM.
- Plan, design, recommend technologies and implement optical network solutions to meet capacity, reliability, and performance goals.
- Produce detailed documentation, including network design, configuration, Method of procedures.
- Forecast capacity and align with National and Regional requirements/strategies regarding growth and expansion.
- Provide transport solutions across self-provisioned optical infrastructure or backhaul from 3rd party Service Providers to support all capacity requirements of the business.
- Conduct high-level & Low-Level National OTN/DWDM planning.
- Monitor and review the performance of the transmission network (alarms, errors, availability, congestion).
- Ensure grade of service and provide support in troubleshooting for degradation of Transport Key Performance Indicators.
- Management and timely resolution incidents and outages.
- Develop methods of procedure and oversee implementation.
- Design, develop automated test cases for features of network management and automation product for access network.
- Understand feature impacts, identify test cases, and prepare plan to execute them.
- Analyse, reproduce, debug issues reported by internal and/or external customers promptly.
- Manage vendor performances based on contractual obligations and quality objectives.
- Manage escalation of faults with vendors and communication with stakeholders during incidents
- 5+ years OTN/DWDM experience.
- Working knowledge of optical fibre technical specifications, testing, and link engineering fundamentals.
- Working knowledge of DWDM network architectures (i.e. FOADM/ROADM/PON/fixed and flex grid) and signal flow.
- Familiarity with the following optical transport platforms:
- Huawei.
- Ciena.
- Nokia.
- Understanding of DCN design, IP subnetting, and routing protocols.
- Experience with Data Centre and Carrier Hotel and telecoms facility environments.
- Speed & traffic throughput.
- Latency, jitter & user experience.

- Passive DWDM & CWDM.
- Optical link planning.
- Last mile fibre technology:

- GPON and related passive technologies.

Minimum Qualification Indicator:
- At least 2 years of tertiary education in an engineering or computer science field.
- Network professional certifications.
- Minimum Experience Indicator:
- Five (5) years of experience in the network and telecommunications industry, in a Carrier / Mobile / Enterprise environment.
- Should be able to communicate & collaborate across the Enterprise (Cross functional seamless execution) and developing strong relationships with Internal and External customers.
