Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates to fill the position of Cost Controller to be based at Delmas site, Mpumalanga. The successful candidate will report to the Finance Manager: Potatoes Agriculture & Manufacturing.
Purpose Of The Job
The incumbent is responsible for overseeing the financial aspects of the Potatoes Agriculture department (including Seed Store, Seed Farms & Western Farms) within McCain South Africa frozen foods business. This includes budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and monitoring key performance indicators (KPIs) to ensure the division's financial success and growth. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in agricultural finance, excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders. The Agricultural Accountant Potato plays a critical role in ensuring the financial success of the Potatoes division within McCain South Africa frozen foods business. The individual must possess a deep understanding of agricultural finance and demonstrate a proactive approach to optimizing financial performance.
Key Performance Areas
- Financial Reporting, Monitoring, Budgeting and Forecasting;
- Financial support and guidance to the McCain SAF agriculture team for both potato and seed.
- Maintain financial models, budgets, and forecasts for the Potatoes and Seed, ensuring accurate and timely reporting of financial data.
- Prepare financial reports to Finance Manager Potato: Agriculture & Manufacturing.
- Assist with accurate Budgeting, Forecasting and variance analysis, and communication of expected variances to limit and reduce Potato and Seed risk to the business.
- Regularly track and analyze the Agriculture Division KPIs, identifying trends and opportunities for improvement.
- Provide financial insights and recommendations to support strategic decision-making and drive optimization of Agriculture Potato Raw Materials process.
- Risk Management by Creating a Strong Control Environment;
- Risk mitigation through implementation of SOPs and controls.
- Elimination of unexplainable variances and losses.
- Reduction in the number of outstanding transactions to be processed at the seed store.
- Facilitation of the inventory cycle counts and stock count processes in adherence to Audit compliance for Agriculture RMI (Raw Material Intake) stores.
- Management of Farmer payments;
- Enable a streamlined Farmer payments process by reduction in the:
- Number of early payments
- Rate of debt recovery from farmers
- Number of miscellaneous payments.
- Deadline driven through timely submission of quality reports;
- Adherence to deadlines and queries in line with:
- Submission of reports vs target submission
- Number of queries raised on reports submitted
- Re-submission of reports.
- Stakeholder Management;
- Dispute resolution to enable smooth flow of operations into production.
- Performance management through feedback and collaboration.
- Peer To Peer Feedback to ensure efficiency in operational behaviour.

- Identify and establish new partnerships with Agricultural stakeholders with the aim to enhance the Agricultural Customer Value Proposition (CVP).
- Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Cost Management Accounting (CIMA will advantageous).
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in agricultural finance, preferably within the potato and vegetable industry.
- Strong financial modelling, budgeting, forecasting, presentation skills utilizing Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel, Word.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- SAP experience advantageous.
