PURPOSE OF THE JOB
- Be able to understand the functions, safety and suitability of the crane prior to utilization in the manufacturing industry. Be also able to inspect and record the operational fitness of the components of a crane and be able to access available support systems and emergency services in case of incidents and accidents while operating an overhead/gantry crane.

Tasks & Responsibilities:
- Apply the recognised methods for inspecting & recording the operational fitness of all components of the crane.
- Operate a pendant and cabin controlled crane.
- Demonstrate knowledge of the functions of a crane.
- Identify the safety and suitability of the crane type prior to utilisation.
- Inspect and record the operational fitness of the components of a crane.
- Operate an overhead crane in a safe and competent manner.
- Access available support systems and emergency services in case of incidents and accidents.
- Direct crane operations
- Convey load by means of lifting equipment
- Communicate during crane operations.
- Ensure that all safety features and warning devices on the crane are all working prior utilization and use them during operation.
- Use controls to manoeuvre the crane within manufacturer's specifications to reduce load swings and related safety hazards.
- Operate crane without risk of damage, loss to crane, property, or injury to people.
- Ensure that the crane is stowed according to manufacturer's and company/works requirements
- Ensure that start-up and shutdown procedures are followed according to manufacturer's manual
- Ensure that the handling and storage of the load is in accordance to the ARSSA working instructions.
- Performs machinery pre-check and post- operational checklist.
- Assess operational capability of liftin equipment (e.g. correct SWL of slings etc).
- Participate in planning lifting and shunting operations and align with EPU managers on priorities. Update lifting and shunting
Main Required Competences
Educational Requirements
Mandatory :
- Grade12: Certificate
- Overhead Crane Operations- Code C30, Tandem Lifting, 15 Ton and above
- English fluent
- Previous history in operating heavy lifting equipment
- Basic knowledge of health and safety regulations
- Basic knowledge of DMR18
Mandatory:
- Minimum 1.5 years post qualification
- Relevant experience and/or similar environment
- Previous history in operating heavy lifting equipment

- General knowledge for understanding rigger signal
- Working knowledge of Health & Safety standards
