The Data Operations Group (Data Ops), part of Fitchs Chief Data Office (CDO) function, is seeking a Data Specialist, to join Pretoria team to provide 12-month maternity cover.
The role will interface with teams across Data Ops and the wider CDO as well as groups in Fitch Ratings and Fitch Solutions, and will sit alongside and support our market-leading research team spanning offices in London, New York, Singapore, and Pretoria.
The Data Specialist position entails responsibility for maintaining and analysing macro data, generating risk indices, enhancing existing methodologies and content, and cultivating deep subject matter expertise to assist external and internal data users.

- Efficiently gather and analyse macroeconomic and banking industry time-series to generate risk indices, and use by research analyst
- Collaborate with research analysts to ensure accurate and timely data in our products, and use the expertise you acquire to develop new content sets and products
- Work alongside FS Sales team to explain methodologies, risk indices and promote FS business development
- Actively participate in external client meetings to provide subject matter expertise and deliver data presentations
- Undergraduate degree in economics or statistics or similar
- Academic or professional experience, in statistics or econometrics combined with working with macroeconomic data
- Strong proficiency in Excel (VBA) and solid knowledge of Python
- Proven forecasting, analytical, and data transformation skills in a dynamic and challenging working environment
- Programming experience, utilising APIs using Python
- Knowledge of model governance approaches
- Deep knowledge of a banking sector
- Experience applying specific time-series forecasting methodologies
- Understanding of data governance principles and workflow management
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Enthusiasm to pick up new processes quickly and accurately
- Strong problem-solving skills and a can-do attitude to problems
