Job Description
Job Purpose:
The primary role is to support the management, maintenance, and performance of Oracle database systems. This role will work closely with senior DBA and IT teams to ensure the smooth operation of database and application environments and assist in implementing solutions.
Responsibilities
- Manage user accounts, access privileges, and security settings within the database and application.
- Create and maintain user profiles, roles, and permissions to ensure data integrity and security.
- Grant and revoke user privileges as per business requirements and Oracle EBS user front-end support.
- Assist in identifying and resolving database and application-related issues, such as performance bottlenecks, connectivity problems, and data corruption.
- Collaborate with senior DBA and other IT teams to diagnose and implement appropriate solutions.
- Assist in installing and configuring Oracle database and application software and related tools.
- Identify and address performance issues and bottlenecks through performance monitoring and tuning techniques.
- Assist in optimizing SQL queries, database design, and indexing strategies.
- Monitor the performance and health of Oracle databases and Applications using appropriate monitoring tools.
- Perform routine maintenance tasks such as backup and recovery, data optimization, database tuning and applying patches, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring application availability and reliability.
- Monitor database growth and plan for future capacity requirements.
- Optimize database storage allocation and usage.
- Implement partitioning, compression, and other techniques to maximize database performance and efficiency.
- Review patch release notes, bug fixes, and security enhancements to determine the relevance and impact on the system.
- Plan and schedule patch deployments, considering system availability and minimizing disruption to users.
- Apply patches and updates to the Oracle database and applications software and associated components, following the recommended installation procedures.
- Conduct thorough testing and verification of the patched system to ensure stability and proper functioning.
- Perform application cloning operations to create copies of applications for various purposes, such as development, testing, or disaster recovery.
- Customize the cloned applications to match the target environment, ensuring consistency in application parameters, configurations, and schema objects.
- Test the cloned application to verify its functionality and integrity, addressing any issues or conflicts that arise during the process.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date documentation of database and application configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
- Generate regular reports on database and application performance, capacity, utilization, and user activities for monitoring.
- Generate Database and Application health check reports for decision-making purposes.
- Assist in implementing and maintaining security measures, including access controls, encryption, and vulnerability assessments.
- Collaborate with the security team to address security risks and compliance requirements.
- Assist in implementing backup and recovery strategies for Oracle database and applications to ensure data protection and minimize downtime.
- Conduct regular backup tests to verify data integrity and participate in disaster recovery planning and execution.
- National Diploma: IT qualification (NQF 6)
- 3 to 5 years experience in IT
