Responsibilities
We are looking to appoint an astute visionary leader with passion for driving innovation and excellence across multiple engineering disciplines. The role is about management of a portfolio of responsibilities for someone with a proven track record in infrastructure management, maintenance, and overseeing diverse engineering operations and to contribute to departmental management. The portfolio includes being in the forefront of our engineering endeavours, spearheading a dynamic team of talented professionals, and shaping the future of our engineering projects. Your expertise will be instrumental in coordinating and optimizing engineering processes, ensuring seamless operations and peak performance of our infrastructure including management of various engineering workshops, the Occupational Health and Safety division and; the maintenance of contracts with various external service providers. These responsibilities will be achieved through:
- Management Support for the Director
- Leading and management of skilled multi-disciplinary engineers
- Operational Management
- Occupational Health and Safety Management and taking responsibility as a GMR2.1 appointee.
- Development and implementation of cutting-edge engineering practices to enhance operational efficiency and cost-effectiveness
- Project Management
- Utilities Management
- Human Resource Management
- Financial Management
- Staying abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends, utilizing them to elevate our engineering capabilities
- Relevant 4 year/Hons degree
- Professional registration with ECSA
- Valid Drivers licence
The envisaged candidate shall have 8 years experience (of which 3 years in management) in the following areas:
- Engineering management in a maintenance environment
- Project management
- Financial management
- Human resources management
- Utilities management
- Government Certificate of Competency Factories
- Knowledge of relevant legislation
- Knowledge of infrastructure services
- Impeccable knowledge of Electrical engineering
- Excellent knowledge of Mechanical engineering
- Seasoned knowledge of Civil engineering
- Computer literacy
- Ability to develop plans to accomplish work operations and objectives.
- Ability to use appropriate interpersonal skills and methods to reduce tension and resolve conflict.
- Ability to explore alternatives and positions to reach outcomes that gain the support and acceptance of all parties.
- Skill and ability in coordinating, facilitating, and participating in a collaborative approach to the completion of tasks or assignments.
- Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with others to encourage and support communication and teamwork.
- Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with clients.
- Ability to convey information clearly and concisely.
- Familiarity with the Higher Education environment
- Relevant Masters degree
The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbents level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
