This position is responsible to plan, direct and coordinate professional instrumentation designs as part of the complete design process to meet client-specific requirements. Minimum Requirements
- Degree/ Technical Diploma or NQF Equivalent
- Be familiar with Instrumentation design packages e.g. FDes
- 5+ years operational and design experience (inclusive of relevant design program exposure)
- Exposure to Mining Industry
- International electrical and instrumentation specifications and standards
- SANS standards
- OHS Act
- Technical product knowledge
- Knowledge of PLC and Scada systems
- Development of P&IDs using mechanical equipment lists and PFDs as reference documentation.
- Generate an Instrument index and I/O list.
- Design PLC , Remote I/O and Junction box layouts including hardware and wiring schedules as per design requirements.
- Design all applicable power distributions.
- Generate data sheets and hookup drawings as per design and requirements and have a good idea of Instrumentation selections on specific applications.
- Design general arrangement drawing for Instrument location, Junction box and Remote I/O panels.
- Generate Instrumentation cable blocks ,cable schedules and be able to do cable type selections for specific applications.
- Generate cable rack and routing general arrangements as per design requirements.
- Design loop diagrams as per detail design.
- Liaise with Electrical designers to determine and design Electrical and Instrumentation interface.
- Design Network architecture as per design criteria and clients requirements.
- Generate an Instrumentation Bill of Quantities, Scope of Works and Specifications document as per detail design and clients requirements.
- To plan and align designs to business strategies and objectives to ensure effective customer service.
- To align designs with industry best practices to ensure effective cost management and adherence to safety regulations.
- To ensure continuous improvements on the designs for optimal and cost-effective implementation.
- To mentor and coach the CAD operators and Engineers in training to ensure optimal utilization and development of these human resources.
- To implement design initiatives upon completion of project scoping, tendering and contract preparation with the client.
- To liaise with the respective clients pertaining to the design specifications and requirements to ensure client satisfaction.
- Travel to customers and suppliers sites for meetings, site audits, equipment inspections and commissioning when required.
- To prepare the scope of work, specifications, bill of quantities and tender documents in line with the client's needs and requirements
- To compile further information for the manufacturing and software engineering phases of the project (ref a detailed 'data pack') to ensure successful implementation.
