Applications will be considered if you possess a minimum of five years of hands-on experience in renewable energy, specifically with a robust background in managing wind projects. Proficiency in environmental impact assessments and planning studies is imperative, showcasing a deep understanding of the ecological implications of wind energy initiatives. Strong project management skills are essential for overseeing complex development processes from conception to close. Effective communication and collaboration abilities are critical, ensuring seamless coordination with the variety of stakeholders you would engage with. Additionally, a solid educational foundation in environmental disciplines, including qualifications in geography, environmental studies, urban, town or regional planning, or biodiversity and conservation, further fortifies the developer's capacity to navigate the multifaceted landscape of sustainable energy development.

Education Requirements

As a Wind Developer with our client, you will collaborate across various departments to ensure the successful trajectory of wind projects. Your role involves managing a wind portfolio, and identifying, evaluating, and pursuing new opportunities in the wind energy sector. Taking the lead in appointing consultants for environmental impact assessments and planning studies, you will contribute to preliminary designs, undertake additional project permitting and approval processes, engage with relevant government departments, and lead stakeholder engagement to understand project grid connection options. Additionally, you will prepare documents to ensure Eskom grid access, document and administer project information, and stay abreast of industry developments through association committees, memberships, and initiatives.
A proficient wind developer and the perfect candidate possesses a diverse skill set crucial for successful project execution. This includes expertise in rezoning and navigating the complex web of permitting requirements, demonstrating a keen understanding of the intricacies of land use applications in South Africa, in particular. The developer should excel in site acquisition, demonstrating a strategic vision in identifying and securing suitable locations. Effective negotiation skills are paramount, especially in dealings with landowners, requiring a balance of diplomacy, professionalism and business acumen. Familiarity with PPPs is essential, as is experience in Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer (REIPP) initiatives, showcasing a comprehensive understanding of sustainable energy frameworks. The developer's mastery extends to overseeing project permitting processes, ensuring compliance and facilitating the seamless development of wind energy projects from inception to realization.
