JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Diesel Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance and repair of diesel-powered vehicles. Their duties include running diagnostic tests on vehicles, test driving vehicles to gauge performance and maintaining detailed records of the vehicles they have serviced.
MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Running diagnostic tests on vehicles
- Analyzing diagnostic test results
- Replacing vehicle engines, steering mechanisms, transmissions, and braking systems
- Checking vehicle lighting systems
- Test driving vehicles to gauge performance
- Performing preventative maintenance on service trucks
- Maintaining detailed records of serviced vehicles
- Adhering to an inspection procedure checklist
- Maintaining a parts inventory
- Ensuring the cleanliness of the shop
- Use hand tools, such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, or precision instruments, as well as power tools, such as pneumatic wrenches, lathes, welding equipment, or jacks and hoists
- Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and machinery
- Recondition and replace parts, pistons, bearings, gears, and valves
- Inspect, repair, and maintain automotive and mechanical equipment and machinery, such as pumps and compressors
- Install or repair accessories
- Disassemble and overhaul internal combustion engines, pumps, generators, transmissions, clutches, and differential units
- Repair or adjust seats, doors, or windows
- Conduct regular inspections in order to ready to go trucks on alternating weekends as scheduled
- Ensure that you are available and, in a condition, to perform your duties while on standby
- Report any defects and/or irregularities to the fleet manager
- Ensure that you adhering to safe working procedures at all times
- Matric
- Diesel Mechanic qualification + trade tested
- Minimum 3 years experience (post trade test) required
- This position involves shift work and some weekends
- Valid Code 14 license, or willingness to obtain Code 14 license
