Head of Commercial Finance, Finance Department

Key Responsibilities

To oversee the effective management of the commercial accounting function in DSA. This needs to be in compliance with best practice, contractual commitments, legal requirements, budgets, policy and procedure and ethical business practice.To support the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) in meeting the core Finance Commercial Objectives which include: 2. Revenue Management 3. Processes and Controls 4. Reporting 5. Learning and growth Position Requirements
  • Cost Management
  • Implement, upgrade and maintain a robust ABC system including standard costs /rate cards and reporting.
  • Completeness and accuracy of Cost of goods accounting.
  • Management and control of TM1.
  • Timeous and accurate costing of projects including new business.
  • Automation and integration of data inputs/keys/drivers etc to enhance quality and efficiency.
  • Monthly/Quarterly review of variances to standard with key stakeholders with appropriate corrective action.
  • Opex analysis monthly.
  • Ensure completeness and accuracy of revenue and all its components: Sales, Trading Terms, Promotional spend.
  • Work with Key Account and Trade Marketing Team on improving commercial process -Trade Terms, Promotional spend.
  • Ensure prompt collection of outstanding Debts and authorisation and processing of Trading term and promotional claims.
  • Monitor and manager net sales to ensure it remains in line with budget.
  • Calculate ROI for Sales initiatives to assess viability of project, followed by debrief after execution.
  • Ensure Vendor contracts are abided by and effectively managed and renewed before expiry.
  • Understand, manage and achieve the needs of internal and external customers.
  • Manage the implementation and maintenance of and compliance with effective internal controls, policies and procedures in areas of responsibility.
  • Facilitate the annual budget process: Prepare timetable, issue instructions, co-ordinate inputs and reviews and finalise submissions.
  • Facilitate quarterly BPE process: Prepare timetables, issue instructions, co-ordinate inputs, facilitate reviews and finalise submissions.

  • Ensure timeous and accurate completion of monthly and adhoc reporting.
  • Ensure all deadlines are met timeously and accurately.
  • Implement/upgrade and maintain specific business analytics and reports on customer, channel, product etc.
  • Identify training and development needs of team and execute same effectively utilising appropriate tool set.
  • Share knowledge and insights within broader DSA and Group Finance.
  • Continual self-development and proactive initiation of company led management training and statutory/ regulatory developments.
  • Coach and mentor team members to build capacity and to ensure a learning environment is established.
  • Share knowledge and information continually with existing and new team members within broader DSA.
  • CA (SA) or CIMA.
  • 8 years experience In Commercial Finance.
  • Minimum 5 years in Managerial capacity.
  • Solid ABC track record, preferably in Logistics or FMCG.
  • Revenue (including trading terms) and cost management experience.
  • Managing of Budgetary controls, Business costings and P&L analysis.
  • Implementation of and compliance with effective internal controls, policies and all related accounting procedures that ensure quality financial/commercial analysis and reporting, optimal working capital, staff management and development, effective business controls and sustainable profitable growth.
