Director, AFME/EU Employee Relations

Role Summary

The Employee Relations Lead MERA and Europe region supports People Experience and management teams on all employee relations activities across all business lines in the regions across all countries. May also provide ER support to other markets as required. Ensures ER policies, programs and processes are aligned with Pfizers business and values to foster an open, diverse and inclusive work environment

Role Responsibilities
  • Responsible for employee relations strategies ensuring consistent interpretation and implementation of policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for activities regarding legal compliance in the development, implementation, monitoring and modification of policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Provides ER education, coaching and advice to leadership and PX on the legal requirements, documentation and initiation of disciplinary procedures including PIP coaching, Open Door, facilitation and mediation, restructuring and severance.
  • Manage ER investigations regionally for all business units and leadership levels consistent with ER protocol and case management practices for successful resolution in the following areas: highly complex, behavior/conduct issues, statutory/legal claims and compliance matters.
  • Manage regional Compliance Hotline investigations and responses in partnership with Compliance, Global Security and as required with internal partners and provide guidance in respect of remediation up to and including termination process.
  • Partner with PX in respect of organizational restructures /divestitures / mergers / acquisitions to ensure compliance with local legislation requirements and severance policies, and partner in projects impacting ER and ELG areas or expertise.
  • Manage ER cases with internal and external counsel as necessary and prepare all required documentation as per local legislation.
  • Proactively identify solutions to recurring workplace issues or concerns by tracking and analyzing data
  • Review ER processes and make recommendations for process efficiencies and opportunities
  • Leverages technology and resources to maximize & balance workload, and track cases (Team Connect)
  • Assist in the maintenance of the ER Case Management Guide and Resource documents utilized by the global ER COE
  • Assist in projects impacting ER areas of expertise and ELG, as needed
  • Participates/guides PX in union/participation committee discussions in respect of restructuring, policy changes and benefits changes
  • Keeps abreast of employment law changes and judgements in AfME region by attending relevant seminars and subscribing to relevant legal newsletters (e.g. Bowmans seminars in South Africa, DLA Genie updates for middle east)
Basic Qualifications
  • Degree in PX/ER related field
  • Minimum 7 Years of ER experience with increasing responsibility demonstrating excellent decision making and judgment with strong ability to relate well to others and build rapport
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver top quality ER services in a fast pace, high change environment
  • Experience in PX technical proficiencies, Employment Law and core PX competencies with experience in presenting evidence, coaching, conflict resolution and driving process improvements
  • Excellent project management, facilitation and complex problem-solving skills, along with strong process skills
  • Demonstrated ability and track record of working independently and highly effective in a virtual environment
  • Strong business acumen and functional knowledge
  • Strong leadership, integration, negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • Excellent communication skills; able to explain ER & PX policies, processes and practices in a clear and concise manner
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills to partner effectively with wide range of stakeholders
  • Proven ability to analyze issues with strong solutions orientation
  • Working knowledge of the employment laws of the AfME region
Preferred Qualifications
  • Post graduate qualification in Human Resources, Labor & Industrial Relations or MBA with focus in Employee Relations or Human Resources or related field
