Job Purpose
The Data Risk Manager develops the Banks ability to identify and manage systemic risk exposure with relative speed and accuracy in a proactive manner. The incumbent builds and maintains a strong IT governance framework, data governance framework and is responsible for ensuring compliance with the provisions of the applicable legislation and regulations.
The incumbent also has a deep understanding of the data management principles and architecture, and understands the complexities of an integrated digital environment. The output of which will allow for an appropriate risk reporting mechanism through the identification of associated risks.
This role establishes an overarching and cross-functional governance capability that enables risk-reporting practices. In addition, a deep understanding of BCBS 239 principles that will enable and allow the Bank to implement a solution that aggregates and reviews data and IT/digital capabilities and report on adherence. The Manager Data defines frameworks and principles to gather and review risk data according to the banks risk reporting governance frameworks and ensures that the business processes associated to these principles are embedded into the IT Systems during the build phase. The frameworks also include the governance of third party/vendor management.
Areas of responsibility may include but not limited to
- Working with the appropriate Business, Risk, IT and Information Security teams to ensure processes and systems that hold and/or process client data and information are secure and robust from a data protection perspective, including data sharing internally with Group companies or externally with e.g. 3rd party suppliers
- Ensuring the documentation of processing activities regarding personal information processed within Discovery Bank
- Conducting data privacy impact assessments when personal information is processed within the Discovery Bank to ensure adequate measures and standards exist to comply with conditions of lawful processing
- Provides the framework for risk change control to address identified strategic risks
- Builds a framework that enables the aggregating of all material risk data across the Bank that is complete, useful, relevant, accurate, and timely in order to identify current and emerging risk exposure
- Establishes risk-reporting practices across the bank that adheres to BCBS 239 principles, which also includes the implementation of remedial actions
- Build and continuously enhance the infrastructure for reporting on key information for the Board and Senior Executives to identify, monitor, and manage risk

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to convey technical detail in clear and concise manner
- Ability to work under time constraints with minimal supervision in an agile environment
- Knowledge of Banking products, processes and systems is an advantage
- Extensive systems and business experience with a proven track record of innovation, delivery and performance
- Business or Business Science degree.
- At least 5 years experience in managing data teams for large commercial entities, preferably with exposure to banking and payments.
- A good understanding of information technology
- Professional certification in Information Privacy
- A good understanding of BCBS 239 principles / RDARR
