We invite applications from candidates for a 6 months fixed-term contract position of, Driver, to service across DTHF/C sites, as per schedule assigned. The incumbent will be required for the secure transportation of goods, staff, and participants as and when required, as well as to assist with general duties when not driving. The main purpose of this position is to ensure that sites are equipped with adequate drivers when current drivers are on leave. The position is based at the DTHF/C Head Quarters, but servicing DTHF/C sites across Western Cape.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12
- Valid South African code 10 Drivers License with PDP
- At least 2-3 years driving experience
- Knowledge of South African National Traffic Laws & Regulations, as well as attention to safety and security
- Possess a comprehensive knowledge of Cape Town, Western Cape routes
- The ability to read road maps efficiently and work with google maps
- Knowledge of requirements and standards related to the safe and efficient operation of commercial vehicles as well as operational routine maintenance
- Basic computer skills - Microsoft Office
- Ability to follow routine verbal and written instructions via respective Operational Managers
- Effective Communication (verbal and written)
- Interpersonal skills
- Diligent attention to safety and security whilst travelling
- Able to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment
- Effective time management through planning of daily route to maximize efficiency
- Ability to function as part of a team as well as the ability to work independently
- No traffic violations or offences
- Willingness to travel and work irregular hours, including weekends
- Willingness to assist with General Work at both Head Quarters and Sites
- Experience working in a research environment
- Good Clinical Practice (GCP) Certificate
- Advanced/Evasive Driving Course Certification
- Dangerous Goods Certification
- Maintenance Certification (plumbing/electrical)
- Supporting respective sites as per the pre-arranged schedule with driving, general work, etc.
- Safe transport of equipment, staff, participants and/or other personnel to various research sites and required locations in a timely, safe, and courteous manner, whilst ensuring the SA Road and Traffic Ordinances are followed.
- Complete the necessary funder compliance documents required whilst vehicle is in use, planning of schedule.
- Perform routine vehicle maintenance, such as checking oil, water, tyres, fuel, lighting and notify Operational Manager of maintenance issues and services due.
- Report any routine or non-routine vehicle problems or malfunctioning equipment to Operational Manager verbally and in writing and where possible assist in obtaining, quotes for the repair.
- Follow organisational instructions, procedures, and standards for the efficient & safe operation of the vehicle, as well as for the care and safety of passengers
- Assist the Operational Managers on site when not driving with general work as and when required
