Responsibilities
The incumbent will be responsible for:
- Guiding, advising, assisting and empowering faculties to incorporate community engagement in academic programmes as an integral part of curriculum development for teaching and learning;
- Promoting best practices in teaching, learning, evaluation, monitoring and assessment of programmes that involve community engagement;
- Working with and in communities in collaboration with the community engagement manager and partners using a community development paradigm;
- Synchronizing curricular community engagement activities and projects in the faculties in order to ensure integrated contact with the community;
- Initiating (where necessary) and serving on committee structures to support curricular community engagement in the faculties;
- Conducting research in order to stay abreast of trends and produce new knowledge;
- Producing quarterly newsletters to promote community activities;
- Representing the University on SAHECEF.
- Appropriate Masters degree in Education, Community Development/Engagement, or related field. (If Masters Degree is not in Education, an appropriate diploma or Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education is essential);
- At least eight years experience within higher education including experience in and exposure to:
- Curricular community engagement in higher education;
- Working with local communities;
- Diversity management;
- Curriculum development in higher education;
- Co-ordinating and facilitating training interventions and rendering support to academic staff;
- Education practice and education technology.
- Project management skills;
- Language proficiency;
- Negotiation skills;
- In-depth knowledge of community development theories and practices;
- Insight into the functioning and structures of a faculty or other academic unit.
- Teaching experience within the higher education environment;
- Experience in working with communities in and around Pretoria.
