Education psychologist position is available at Tafelberg School.
Job responsibilities:
- To render psychological counselling and support within a special school/resource centre environment.
- To assist school management to make the school efficient and effective as a teaching and learning institution.
- Provision of psychological support to learners as a member of a trans-disciplinary team.
- Promote and support the implementation of inclusive education policy and guideline documents.
- Assist within the School-Based Support Team (SBST) to develop and monitor Individual Support Plans (ISP) for learners experiencing barriers to learning.
- Provision of psycho-educational and psycho-social support to learners, educators and parents.
- Capacity-building of educators and parents within the inclusive education framework.
- Administration of psychological and educational assessments.
- Provision of short-term psycho-therapeutic support for learners.
- Assist the school with the development of networks for support.
- Adhere to the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) ethical code for psychology, scope of practice and other guideline documents.
- Undertake Continuous Professional Development (CPD) and professional supervision as a personal responsibility.
- Maintain a record of all psychological and educational interventions. Draft professional psycho-educational and psycho-social reports.
- Maintain a sound administrative system ensuring confidentiality of records.
Job requirements:
- Basic counselling skills.
- Child development.
- Computer literacy.
- Masters-level degree in Psychology. Registration as a psychologist (Educational, Clinical or Counselling) with the Professional Board for Psychology of the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
- Recognized post-graduate qualification [REQV 14] which must include appropriate training as an educator.
- Registration as an educator with the South African Council for Educators (SACE).
- At least 3 to 5 years relevant psycho-educational and/or psycho-social experience.
- A certified copy of a valid drivers’ licence.
- Proficiency in English and at least 1 other official language of the Western Cape.
- Knowledge and experience in the early identification, assessment and support of learners experiencing barriers to learning. Knowledge of the Screening, Identification, Assessment and Support (SIAS) policy.
- Crisis management, diagnostic assessment, inclusive education policy and guideline documents.
- Learning strategies.
- Multi-disciplinary teamwork.
- National curriculum policy statements.
- Presentation skills.
- Preventative programmes.
- Professional ethics.
- Psycho-educational assessment, psycho-social support, psycho-therapeutic techniques, psychological research methodology.
- Report writing, teaching styles, sound administration, trauma de-briefing, whole school development.
