Hatch is currently recruiting for an Electrical Engineer within the Technoloies team in our Greenstone Hill Office. Our Technologies team is focused on the design and development of innovative technologies across sectors: Metals, Energy, Infrastructure. The Electrical Engineer will be part of the Technologies Power and Control team providing engineering services to large and small projects mainly in the mining, smelting and energy sectors. These projects will be specifically related to Hatch Technologies focused on Power and Energy.
The Electrical Engineer
- is responsible for preparing engineering calculations, scopes of work, technical specifications, data sheets bill of quantities and reports.
- is also responsible for assistance/participation in on-site commissioning.
- will report to the Lead Electrical Engineer on a large project and to the Project Manager or Engineering Manager on small projects, i.e., functions as the Lead Electrical Engineer on small projects.
- should also be able to work on research, development, and improvement of existing, and possibly new, Hatch Technologies.
- Study, understanding, implementation and improvement of Hatch technologies from an electrical point of view, mainly in the mining, smelting and energy sectors.
- Assist with development of existing and new Hatch technologies, which might require Research and Development.
- Complete electrical related simulations using software like ETAP/PowerFactory, MATLAB/Simulink, Magnet/Thermnet (FEA/FEMM).
- Complete power quality measurements, analysis and reporting.
- Assist the Engineering Manager/Lead Electrical Engineer with the delivery of project requirements as they relate to scope, cost and schedule.
- Prepare, subject to the approval of the Lead Electrical Engineer, technical documentation required for the execution of the project, including but not limited to design criteria, design calculations, preliminary studies, value engineering studies, power system/network studies, power quality studies, technical specifications/tender documentation, equipment lists and datasheets.
- Prepare, with the help of designers and draftsmen, single line diagrams, general layout drawings, standard detail drawings, construction and/or fabrication drawings, schematic drawings, cable/termination schedules and as-built documentation.
- Manage and coordinate with the Lead/Senior Electrical Engineers the progress of the engineering work in accordance with the project scope, schedule, and procedures.
- Review shop drawings to ensure conformity with engineering designs.
- Following the award of contracts and purchase orders as instructed, monitor the fabrication and construction work to ensure that it is executed in accordance with the engineering designs.
- Witness Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT).
- Assist the Lead Electrical Engineer to measure, the progress of the engineering work packages to ensure that project budgets and schedules are being met. Assist the Lead Electrical Engineer in implementing corrective actions as required.
- Assist the Lead/Senior Electrical Engineers in reviewing the outcome of quality audits of engineering work and perform remedial work in accordance with the project procedures and the quality assurance plan.
- Assist the Lead/Senior Electrical Engineers in ensuring that the checking of documentation and interdisciplinary coordination is implemented in accordance with project procedures.
- Assist the Lead Electrical Engineer in the preparation of engineering progress reports for incorporation into the engineering report.
- Assist in the commissioning and inspections/fault finding on site as required.
Essential
- BSc/B.Eng degree in power/electrical engineering (M.Eng/MSc preferred).
- Registration as a professional engineer. Alternatively, registration as a candidate for professional engineer actively working towards professional registration.
- Minimum five years project engineering experience or relevant experience (see Preferred). Experience in electrical design/consultancy ideally within a similar large engineering or multi-disciplinary project environment.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Good planning and organizational skills.
- Ability to function with minimal supervision.
- Sound understanding of design engineering codes and technical standards.
- Awareness of Hatch HSEC policy and standards.
- Good safety awareness.
- Knowledge of 3D data-centric design systems.
- Knowledge of engineering management systems.
- Ability to delegate tasks and effectively supervise others.
- Experience in the use of procedures and workflows in the execution of projects.
- Experience in using MATLAB.
- Experience with FEA/FEMM electrical (Magnetic field and Electric fields) analysis software would be beneficial.
- Experience with ETAP or PowerFactory for basic and dynamic simulations.
- Experience with Power Quality measurements and analysis
- Experience or knowledge of electric arc furnaces and the related electrical infrastructure (furnace transformers, low-voltage bus, switchgear).
- Power transformer and switchgear (6.6 kV, 11 kV & 33 kV) design knowledge.
- Experience with solar, wind, nuclear or other forms of power generation
- Knowledge of protection settings and grading, as well as relay programming.
- Experience with power generation and grid/micro grid control technologies and their implementation.
